Which caliber next??

Still pretty new to the gun world...man there are a lot of toys out there!

So far I've accumulated the following for my self-defense and zombie apocalypse situations:

S&W M&P 9c - in nightstand
Sig P938 - EDC
Mossberg 500 with 18" barrel for home defense and 28" barrel for clays, etc.

Noticably missing is something from the rifle genre. I think to celebrate 4 more years of chaos and financial irresponsiblity I'm going to get a Ruger 10/22 takedown. (I like the gadgets...and the idea of a packable, cheap to shoot gun seems sound.) Any experience or issues with these?

I'd like a bigger caliber rifle too. I just don't see the need for something in the AR platform; although they're pretty darn cool. I'm intrigued by the Ruger Scout (.308) as a versitile 'do-everything' gun. Thoughts? Seems a little pricey.

I'm not a hunter, but would like to do some guided hog hunts in the future.

the Ruger Scout Rifle is at the very top of my list of current "wants"....way ahead of any of the AR or AK varients. Other than that, I prefer lever guns.

My recommendations for hogs / dual purpose with other roles. You said no AR's so I won't mention those.

308 bolt action savage. Surplus Ammo is fairly cheap. $0.60.
357 lever action rifle (marlin if you can find one). Share 38 special and 357 mag ammo between revolver (in your future) and this "Ranch rifle". Very handy.

I saw a sweet JM barrel Marlin 30-30 in stainless steel last weekend at the Saxet Gun Show in San Antonio. The fellow walking around (a participant, not a dealer) wanted $400. I almost bit. Great price. Nice hog rifle. I didn't want another caliber to support ammo for, so I passed.

I would have said the same thing. Lever and wheel guns are way cooler than anything else. For the price of that scout, you could get very nice examples of each.
