Hope those Reagan - Bush justices don't retire for 4 years!

The justices that Obama appoints will be around FOREVER. That's because the rate of increase in lifespan is increasing at an exponential rate due to technology helping attain even more new technology in medical science. If you look at a mathematical curve representing lifespan, you'll see that this is true. Now, if you travel along this curve until 2045 to 2060, then at that time, lifespan will increase faster than aging. That means virtual immortality will be achieved. I say "virtual" because you can still die if you get run over by a bus.

I sure hope those Reagan-Bush justices don't retire for another 4 years AND the Republicans stop smoking pot and dreaming that the country is still 1980. The country is different now, they need to find a Mexican American presidential candidate. The elections are more about demographics and race than ideology. Never in the history of America has ANY presidential candidate been voted in by OVER 98% of any ethnic group. 98% of blacks voted for Obama, even stalwart Republicans like Colin Powell. In a close election that's 49% vs 49%, if you have the support of 98% of any one ethnic group, you'll win the election. Bush got 44% of the HIspanic vote and he won. Romney got 25% of the Hispanic vote and he lost.

Why didn't Romney speak Spanish on Univision? He can, but why didn't he? He spoke English on his Univision speech. Why didn't he pick a female Hispanic running mate? He lacked votes in those groups. I've been moping for the last 2 days..... Ugh.

I donated enormous funds to his PACS while they squandered it on expensive tv ads that nobody watches anymore with the advent of DVR's. Republicans are increasingly out of touch with modern America. Ugh....

:iagree: This is, in part, because modern America is no longer America. It the UK/France/Spain/Greece revisited.

I'm as guilty as anyone else but I suspect that none of us saw it coming. Our education system has brainwashed several generations who now believe that government is the answer to everything. No matter how many times you show them the gross and extensive failures of government "solutions", they always want another. I've come to believe that there is no way to break the cycle without a major collapse. Fortunately, the politicians have arranged so we are very likely to get one in the next 4 years. BTW, that is the politicians on both sides of the isle. Pick your catalyst - the National debt, Obamacare, Quantative Easing. If they work together, the collapse is just going to happen faster.

Edit to add: There is no way that there will not be two appointments to SCOTUS before 2016.

Why Hispanics Don’t Vote for Republicans
By Heather Mac Donald

The call for Republicans to discard their opposition to immigration amnesty will grow deafening in the wake of President Obama’s victory. Hispanics supported Obama by a margin of nearly 75 percent to 25 percent, and may have provided important margins in some swing states. If only Republicans relented on their Neanderthal views regarding the immigration rule of law, the message will run, they would release the inner Republican waiting to emerge in the Hispanic population.

If Republicans want to change their stance on immigration, they should do so on the merits, not out of a belief that only immigration policy stands between them and a Republican Hispanic majority. It is not immigration policy that creates the strong bond between Hispanics and the Democratic party, but the core Democratic principles of a more generous safety net, strong government intervention in the economy, and progressive taxation. Hispanics will prove to be even more decisive in the victory of Governor Jerry Brown’s Proposition 30, which raised upper-income taxes and the sales tax, than in the Obama election.

And California is the wave of the future. A March 2011 poll by Moore Information found that Republican economic policies were a stronger turn-off for Hispanic voters in California than Republican positions on illegal immigration. Twenty-nine percent of Hispanic voters were suspicious of the Republican party on class-warfare grounds — “it favors only the rich”; “Republicans are selfish and out for themselves”; “Republicans don’t represent the average person”– compared with 7 percent who objected to Republican immigration stances.
So much for that myth.

I think we all saw it coming... By all I mean true Americans that value the constitution and bill of rights... We all should have seen it coming the moment government started issuing handouts to the "disadvantaged" of our society... I'm sure some need some assistance but most are just lazy and saw others getting the handouts and thought hey I can do that too..

As for our Supreme Court the latest major battles were decided by a 4-5 or 6-3 in favor of our constitution if we lose one seat and gain a puppet of Obama we can basically kiss our constitution and bill of rights goodbye.

Oh, come on. The Constitution is an old and out-dated document written for a different time by a bunch of racist old white men who were only looking out for themselves. This is a different time and the things in it don't apply anymore. They were good once, but now they just get in the way of the government helping people like it's supposed to do.

Yes, I actually had someone tell me that at a Halloween party just last weekend. THAT is the divide that separates the two sides.

Geez Kythas...did you get a chance to ask them if that also applied to other hindrances to government help? Such as the 1st, 4th, 5th Amendments, etc.? After all those same old white guys came up with those as well. It seems every time I come across someone who claims something like that about the Constitution, they change their tune when I bring up getting rid of the 1st Amendment. Oh no, that is different they say, even though it is essentially part of the same old document....idiots...

The response I usually get is that the Constitution is a good guideline as a whole but shouldn't be taken literally.

This typically means the parts of it the person with whom I'm speaking disagrees can be ignored, but the portions with which he agrees must be enforced. But we should not take a strict, rigid interpretation of it, since it was written so long ago for a different time.

It's interesting how they rationalize things to themselves.

How does Supreme Court Justice Nominee Eric Holder sound? Don't be surprised.

I would say what it sounds like but forum rules prohibit it.

  • Scalia is 76.
  • Kennedy is 76.
  • Thomas is 64.
  • Ginsburg is 79.
  • Breyer is 74.
The others are significantly younger. Ginsburg is the oldest and she's been battling cancer. Thomas is young enough to hang in there for a while longer. The two that will harm us the most if they step down will be Scalia and Kennedy. If Breyer and Ginsburg get replaced, it won't change the current makeup of the court—4 liberals, 4 conservatives, and an independent (Kennedy)—although the obvious "harm" would be that with Kagan and Sotomayor if teemed up with two reliably commie justices replacing Ginsburg and Bryer, that liberal half of the court would last for decades longer. I would be willing to bet that Scalia won't step down, precisely because he wants to outlast Obama and not give him a chance to pack the court. Thomas won't step down for the same reason. Kennedy is the only question, and my gut tells me he probably won't either.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Ginsburg will step down, and that will be it. The court will otherwise remain unchanged until after 2016.

Obamacare will ensure that a sufficient number of hopelessly worthless seniors are eliminated so that the chosen ones on SCOTUS receive their care.

My S-I-L is extremely disabled but voted for Obama. I am waiting my chance to console her and ask her if her vote did her any good when she is eventuallly told that her only option from the death panel is assisted termination.
