He probably lost the sale.

It is also difficult to encourage repeat customers, if one shoots them.

Silver City Police Chief Ed Reynolds said an employee at Copper County Sporting Arms was unloading a .45 caliber handgun when the weapon went off and hit the customer in the back.

It grinds my gears when these are described as ""the weapon went off", as if these are evil, maniacal machines that just randomly decide to fire all by themselves and create havoc.

This is a NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE that violated at least three of Cooper's Rules.

He probably thought you rack the slide, then drop the magazine, and then pull the trigger.

It is odd how they do that when you put a round in the chamber and pull the trigger.

I can't think of a single good reason to be loading a firearm in a store. And if they aren't loaded, there's even less of a reason to be unloading it. Just one more annecdotal reason to not be able to carry concealed into a gun show, I guess.

That weapon should have never been loaded in the store, in the first place.

Heck, even volcanoes and earthquakes don't "just go off." Something is a precursor to the event, whether magma pressure or tectonic plate shifts.

Maybe a lightning strike as a metaphor? Dunno.

I know I'm preachin' to the choir, but...

I have yet to meet or learn of a modern firearm that "went off" on its own. Magic doesn't exist. Only as a result of the firing pin or striker hitting a chambered cartridge will a gun fire.

I'm also a big advocate of specifying that 99.99% of firearms incidents are Negligent Discharges, not Accidental Discharges. Others have convinced me that a true AD may be possible...but "rare" is an understatement.

You are fully responsible for any firearm you touch.

As soon as you touch it, and until it leaves your voluntary possession.

Well maybe it is because a large percentage of the ND's that we hear about are Glock's?

And that's even if you happen to be "the only person Professional enough in this room" to handle this pistol.

Unless he was carrying it as the owners of my LGS do. That really doesn't excuse them from shooting a potential sale in the back or the front.
