Did anyone else see Bob Costas and his anti-gun rant?
Unbelievable! NBC's Bob Costas just blamed the murder suicide on the ability to own a handgun instead of the person who committed the act.

Yup - If hubby weren't such a HUGE Dallas fan and the game were playing elsewhere we would turn it off. Was flabbergasted!

Jovan Belcher - Halftime Commentary

Just saw the announcer on the Cowboys-Eagles halftime quote parts of an article from Jason Whitlock on air.
Here's a link to the full article:

...I would argue that your rationalizations speak to how numb we are in this society to gun violence and murder. We’ve come to accept our insanity. We’d prefer to avoid seriously reflecting upon the absurdity of the prevailing notion that the second amendment somehow enhances our liberty rather than threatens it.
How many young people have to die senselessly? How many lives have to be ruined before we realize the right to bear arms doesn’t protect us from a government equipped with stealth bombers, predator drones, tanks and nuclear weapons?
Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.
In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.
That is the message I wish Chiefs players, professional athletes and all of us would focus on Sunday and moving forward. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.
But we won’t. We’ll watch Sunday’s game and comfort ourselves with the false belief we’re incapable of the wickedness that exploded inside Jovan Belcher Saturday morning.
I'll reserve my commentary on the commentary...

Yep, and blamed loud music/arguments as well.
Guess the guy that committed murder/suicide in Wyoming used a gun too. Oh wait, someone wanting to kill someone else can use a knife? Who would have thought.
But basically Costas said "he knows" if the KC linebacker did not have a gun, him and his wife would still be alive. Wow, sports casters are psychics.

So the argument is that the government has become so powerful we should all disarm?

That was actually a quote from someone else's article.
Maybe a mod can combine the threads somehow??

So, if guns were outlawed, murder would never happen?... Life according to Costas.

Doesn't matter that it was a quote, Costas was taking ownership of it.
As my wife said "He could have just choked her to death."
----------------------
Has anyone gotten any indication whether Belcher had a pistol permit in NY? Suffolk County has long been one of the toughest places to obtain a pistol permit in the entire state of NY.

Didn't you learn in revisionist school that nobody was ever killed before guns came along?

Unreal!! Folks, better go buy why you can! The tree huggers are gonna run wild with this one. The chl holder is not the criminal, but they will come after us. I own several guns, handguns, rifles, shotguns, and a carbine. I understand the responsibility I have when using all of them. I realize what they are capable of and why I should use and teach others to use caution.
The ownership of guns allowed us to become the nation we are, without them, we would be a commonwealth or province of another country. Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin all did away with private ownership is well. Ask the citizens under their rule how that worked out....
I always planned on my chl as a way to know i could defend my family. However, I believe being the way I am I would defend someone who wasn't able to defend themselves. I sure hope I never have to take anothers life, and should i choose to defend my common man, I hope wondering what their stance on gun control is doesn't compromise my judgement while tring to save their life!!

I blame football. Such a violent sport, no wonder these poor kids cannot deal with life responsibly.
And that makes just as much sense as what Costas believes.

Someone in the (sports) media is an anti gun leftist?
I'm shocked and horrified!
To quote the President, Bob acted "stupidly".

Exactly.
Another announcer earlier, a little more circumspect perhaps, said that "Violence never settles anything." which, when applied to football . . .REALLY???

Blame is not on guns or football, blame should be on the glorification of violence and alcohol which is promoted by the sports owners, players and the media. Violence , alcohol, ego and drug use by these young men are the problem, not inanimate objects. A person could be killed with a high heel shoe or a pencil for that matter. Costas continues to be the media idiot of the sports world.

His rant is typical left-wing rhetoric. Bringing up the fact that our military has weapons like stealth bombers? Yep, they do. And they COULD level large portions of this nation. But he certainly misses the point: the COST of doing so. An armed citizenry makes it too costly for the government to wage war on the people. Its like the classic "Mexican standoff". The point of war isn't simply to destroy everything, but to destroy with an objective in mind. And if the objective is to force the citizenry to bend to your will, then an armed citizenry is going to make that objective VERY difficult. Look at what is going on in Syria for just a small example. My disgust with the political left continues...
