I was pretty excited, as two Texas Rangers were on my block this morning as I went to work. I stopped, asked if I could meet them, they said yes and allowed me to have a picture taken with them. Both extremely nice and smart looking to a tee. You could have cut yourself on the crispness of their clothes.

I tried to get a look at their side arms without staring. One appeared to have some sort of pearl handled semi automatic chrome with I though was the Texas flag on the handle. But it was hard to tell.

I have lived in Texas for a long time and have never seen a Texas Ranger before.

Really made me proud to be an adopted Texan.

They really carry around a lot of history with them. May watch True Grit tonight.

Can't say I'd even know what one looks like now a days... when I search online I just get our Boys in Blue or Chuck Norris.

I watched the first 5 shows of "The Lone Ranger" last week, where he was the lone survivor of 6 or so Rangers who got ambushed (surprised me, even if fictional, I never knew he was a TEXAS Ranger...) and how he had saved Tanto as a kid, so Tanto saved him that time ...I've met a couple real ones, but no fictional ones.

New Long Ranger movie is coming out. Looks awesome. I think Johnny Depp plays Tonto.

They were wearing cream cowboy hats, pale blue dress shirts (I think cowboy cut) with khaki pants. Brown belts with brown leather holster that exposed the gun grip. The back of the belt had handcuffs and maybe something else, but very clean. Polished silver badge over the heart. There may have been a slight pinstripe in the shirt. Man wore a tie Woman did not. Both looked really sharp.

I have a photo if everyone thinks its ok to post it.

Without the officers permission I would obscure the faces prior to posting the photo online to protect their privacy.

A couple years ago I met a couple of Rangers in a barbeque joint near work at lunch time. Both hatless, they looked like "seasoned" engineering managers. They certainly didn't look like Walker Texas Ranger, but they had a certain confident "presence". I didn't ask, but I believe they carried M&Ps. I know they weren't 1911s. Kydex holsters too!

First Texas Ranger I remembered seeing, had a 1911 in Condition One on his belt. Definitely made me feel he was ready to react back when I was younger (around 1995). Was very nice and dressed just as professional.

The Texas Ranger assigned to my little corner of Texas (he covers a number of counties) is in his early 40s 6' 5" or so, about 230# former football player in both college and high school and had been scouted by the Cowboys but, decided on LE instead of NFL. He carries a very "Barbecue" 1911 that seems to be the norm for Rangers when they aren't actively doing investigations.

Although Chuck Norris is an honorary Texas Ranger, Ranger Smith said they don't have any Rangers like Walker nor, do they do the stuff you saw him doing on TV.

a police officer in the public domain has no right to privacy period, don't need permission period. and yes texas rangers are police officers, as a matter of fact if your walking around in a public venue I can take your picture use it to make money and you can't get a dime for the use of your image period!

Last summer, my family and I went to the Texas Ranger museum in Waco. In one section, they've got pictures of the active rangers up on the wall. I notice a familiar face and, it turns out, a guy I went to high school with is a Ranger. I was pretty surprised. Apparently, they don't look too closely at your history when they choose Rangers.

You make a good point, although I still feel that it would be the right thing to do. You have no no expectation of (therefor no right to) privacy in public either, but you would still appreciate or not care about someone obscuring your face in a photo they post online if they didn't ask you. Thats my opinion, but yours is just as valid.

How long have you been in Texas?

A "Barbecue" gun is one that is really fancy with engraving, inlays, fancy carved grips in a very ornate holster. The gun you would carry to the Governor's inauguration barbecue. The quintessential BBQ gun is a fully engraved 4 5/8" Colt Single Action in Colt blue with gold leaf fill in the engraving with carved ivory grips in a Texas motif carried in a fully tooled Threepersons holster with sterling silver Mexican conchos and Winchester Silver tip ammo.

We've lived in Texas nigh onto 19 years and have been to a few Barbeques and crawdad boils... a few of 'em could be considered high falutin'. I've yet to see a "Barbeque" gun.

I'll keep my eyes (all four of 'em) peeled in the future. Thanks.
