Can I shoot a box stock 1911 in SSP, or do you shoot in ESP or CDP if you have a 1911?

I am thinking I will try to go to AGP for the Collin County IDPA match tomorrow and see what all the hub-bub is about. I have never shot an IDPA match before, but it sounds like fun.

CDP if it's a .45ACP; ESP if it's not.

Chas.

It is fun! Most fun you can have with a pistol. Have a great time!

Don't get hung up on the seeming size of the rule book: http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf. You'll find a lot of the pages won't apply to you. Appendix One is something you'll want to glance at, and you'll see quickly why Charles said, "CDP." In SSP, you can't shoot single-action pistols. In ESP, the division standard capacity is 10 in the mag, one in the chamber. CDP is just right; designed for the 1911 single stack .45 with one in the pipe, eight in the mag, and all competitors shooting .45 and nothing lighter.

More than fun. If you're like me, you don't have a range where you can practice holster work, rapid fire, multiple targets, and shooting while moving. For me, I can do that only in a paid training class or at an IDPA match. I'm not too bad standing still and slow-firing at non-moving paper. Different story when all that other stuff starts happening. ;-)

I was at APG just last weekend. Great folks and great shootin'. Arrive a little early to get the best parking so you can have easy access to your vehicle during the match.

Thank you for the answers. Unfortunately, the wife has made plans so I can't go tomorrow, which is a shame since AGP is close to the house, but I'll get to one of the matches soon.

What? I drove 300 miles to get there last weekend.

Seriously, try to make a CCIDPA match. They're hosting the 2007 Texas IDPA Championships...in no small part because they're really gosh darned good folks.

They will welcome a new shooter with open arms.

Your wife must not be as mean as mine

I'll make it over there soon.
