My only objection is that an assault rifle is not a semi-automatic rifle. He commingles the two terms way too much for for my taste.Gameover wrote:Mrcolionoir is the man! Been wathcing him for a while now.
Exactly! Too many of the "talking heads" on TV and other media go unchallenged by supposedly knowledgeable pro gun experts when it comes to "assault rifles." You'd think that would be the first thing they would challenge, especially when the conversation is about a ban of something that they are NOT. The first answer I would have to any question about an assault rifle ban is, "Do you know what is an assault rifle is, and do you know that the weapons you are proposing for this ban are not assault rifles, not military rifles, are not machine guns, and have no fully automatic function, and simply resemble what you are proposing to ban?" I'm sure they would be met with answers that show that the questioner has no idea. My next sentence would be, "then you are proposing a ban on weapons you know nothing about, or are grossly ignorant about, and are misleading the public."Skiprr wrote:My only objection is that an assault rifle is not a semi-automatic rifle. I think that's one of the intrinsic problems we face: the libs think any semi-automatic version of an M4 is an "assault rifle."
It isn't. It's simply a rifle that looks like a military rifle. It looks that way because the basic operating platform has proven, over decades, to be solid and reliable. That's why we own it.
An AR-15 can only fire one tiny round--hey, it's essentially a .22, after all--with one squeeze of the trigger. It can't do burst fire; it can't go full auto. It is not an assault rifle.
