Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of shooting a Walther P 22. I really liked how it fit, handled and shot. Buds Guns have/had 'em for the low $300's. Anybody here know anything about the gun?

my BIL (who may also see this post and respond) bought a P22 about 2 years ago.
If you get the standard P22, (normal length) it is very ammo particular, and will not shoot any bulk ammo.
The only thing it would shoot (and is recommended by Walther) is CCI ammo.
Basically, shooting CCI would cost about 3x as much as bulk ammo per round.
Then he bought the extended barrel for it, with the extra barrel length, and blowback pressure, it would eat any ammo.
Also with the extra length, of course it became more accurate as well.

Loading the mags are easy, it has a nice and easy spring assist on the magazine, and to contrast it to my Ruger spring assist, which after only a few rounds hurts your thumb, with the P22, you do not have the sore thumb issue.
I do not remember any FTE or FTFs other than with non-CCI ammo and none since the barrel extension was put on.
If you have a chance to buy one, price it with and without the barrel extension, as with it, you will probably save $40 - $50 vs without and then buying the extension later.
Good luck, happy shooting and Merry Christmas!

I think this was the newer model w/o any barrel extension and it was shooting Win 555 just fine.
Thanks and a Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I had one many years ago
it had the extended barrel and the laser
Looked cool and worked relatively well -
As previously mentioned it was picky on ammo AND
It wasnt accurate at all compared to my Buckmark
I sold it after being disappointed
Buckmark will eat most anything and shoot it well

I did hear that they learned that the feed ramp was the issue on eating normal (bulk) ammo, and the new models they shaved abit off to make it better.

I have a P22Q with the short barrel and it wont shoot anything but CCI Mini-Mags. But I quit trying other brands anyways. You can get spare mags at

By brother owned one for several years. Gun was ok. Nothing special and picky with some ammo. Decent pistol just not a target pistol. Put it this way there are better 22 s for the money. Walthers are great guns but this one is not myfavorite

I bought one about 4 or 5 years ago....loved the way it felt in my hand, the trigger guard mag release, the sights, the appearance and quality...in short everything about it...EXCEPT the failure to function properly with most .22 ammo. The one I had was std. barrel and unlike some others mine was plenty accurate...not as good as my MK III target model, (never expected it to be), but it was on par with S&W 34 revolvers. I kept fighting it for about 2 years, hoping that after a good break-in period it would get better, but it didn't, so I traded it off. Hopefully Walther has addressed it by now.

I have two Ruger Mk III's. One is the 22/45 Hunter and the other is the standard model. They're both cool, I just became infatuated with the little P 22. Oh well, maybe my friend will let me get better acqainted with his Walther and kill my want.
Y'all have a Merry and safe Christmas.

Oh, I still WANT one...and if I hear that the ammo specific functioning issues have been fixed, I'll buy another in a heartbeat... and the same Christmas wishes back to you and yours.

Add my two cents in: I have had one in the longer barrel for years. Great little gun, shoots any thing I feed it. I got a suppressor adapter for it and it functions fine with that as well.
