We need more articles such as this to combat the anti media machine.

A great article followed by at least one full blown idiot's comments.

I like his points, but apparently he's one of the ones who only counts shooting with x number of fatalities
New Life Church was NOT a Gun Free Zone. I should know, no I was not a member, but I went to several events there.

In order to claim that no licensed gun holder has ever saved lives in a mass shooting, the lying antis claim 4 deaths is the minimum number for a massacre. (See Mother Earth News for the most recent example of this disingenuous statistic.) In every massacre of four or more dead, no licensed gun holder has ever saved any lives. The reason for this is that, when no licensed gun holder is present in an attempted mass shooting, the average number of dead is 14. In every attempted mass shooting where a licensed gun holder was present, the average death count is 2.4. The New LIfe Church shooting follows this pattern. Two people were killed before a licensed gun holder intervened and the actor was killed by that licensed gun holder.
Rather than try to explain this difference, John Lott simply uses their numbers to prove how stupid, corrupt and hypocritical they are. He's been playing this game with the antis for a long time now. The numbers are on his side, and he knows how to use them.

How many people were shot at New Life Church?
I think he did say "mass shootings". It's the avoidance of mass shotings most of the anti-gun crowd are saying the bans will eliminate.

Another thought I have is that we should all ban together for this fight for our rights rather than nitpicking and finding fault with one another's arguments. We have enough trying kI to take our rights away by doing that.

I have conversed with Mr. Lott a couple of times via email and he is about as good as you are going to get when it comes to firearms statistics and knowing how they REALLY apply. There isn't an anti- out there who can go toe-to-toe with him...that is why they always cook the numbers or resort to "think of the children" rhetoric.

If you haven't read any of his work, it is well worth arming yourself.
More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws, Third Edition (Studies in Law and Economics) by John R. Lott, Jr.
The Bias Against Guns: Why Almost Everything You'Ve Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong by John R. Lott, Jr.
Less useful, but still interesting:
Straight Shooting: Firearms, Economics and Public Policy by John R. Lott, Jr.

I'd like to know how to counter that argument - do you have any examples?
The
FBI defines a mass shooting as an event were four or more people have died. That definition excludes
every attempted mass shooting that was stopped by a licensed gun holding civilian. No madman has ever been able to kill four people when one law abiding citizen was present and had a gun. As a result, almost six times as many people die in gun free zones as die in guns allowed zones when a madman begins to fire. Every mass shooting in the US since 1950, except one (Gabby Giffords), has occurred in a gun free zone and most gun free zone shooters in the US have committed suicide rather than face armed opposition.
About 30 more young students and professors died at Virginia Tech than would have if guns had been allowed. 24 more in Connecticut. 10 more in Colorado. 11 more at Columbine High School. 21 more at Lubys in Killeen. 19 more In San Diego. That's more than 100 people that gun free zones have contributed to their deaths.
It's likely that if the teachers in Newton had been armed
NOT ONE child would have died.
Mass shootings occur
in every country in the world regardless of the gun laws in the country involved. School massacres occur
in every country in the world regardless of the gun laws. The worst school massacre in history
occurred in the US in 1929 and involved explosives and incendiary devices. No guns were used.
Mass killers don't just use guns. They use explosives, edged weapons, cars, trucks, baseball bats, grenades, airplanes, trains, buses, poison gases, etc., etc., etc. The only common factor is the madness of the killer(s).

two teen girls, sisters, were killed, I honestly can't remember if anyone else was injured. Since the girls were homeschooled I knew of the family.
