One of the nagging questions for me, trying to counter the gun bans is: exactly what weapons are the BGs using to commit crimes? In doing some research, I found this

I really don't like the answer because it says that 9mm handguns are the ones used most. But I cannot believe that gangbangers and others are buying Sigs, Glocks, etc.

While this article is older, it suggests that revolvers, not semi-autos (the ones that they want to ban) are the most commonly stolen

It sure doesn't look like the most used are the ones that would subject to the ban. I'm surprised at the number of .380s on the list.

So...is there more current information? Is this idea just spitting into the wind, so to speak?

Burglars of houses while people are at work usually get them free

Car burglars on "mandatory gun storage farms" such as college campuses usually get them free

I doubt many criminals "buy" guns, they probably trade for them ... one illegal item for another ... as in "the drug trade"

In the 1970s I was held up in a store by 2 guys with revolvers, and again by 5 guys with revolvers and shotguns
In the 1970s more people had revolvers, Glocks were not here ...
In the 1970s, criminals burglarized places and got free revolvers.

Whatever is owned by the millions and gets stolen, is what they'll use.
If none were owned by law abiding people to steal, they'd use stapler shotguns, and we'd be defenseless, and we'd be seeing legislation about registering stapler serial numbers.

Yes, but the Lib narrative is that the "gun show loophole" is what is putting guns in the hands of BGs. If they are only stealing them, then the argument about gun shows goes away, doesn't it? That is one of Bloomy's pet peeves.

What I was hoping for is overwhelming statistics that the BG guns are Saturday night special types, stuff that the rest of us would never own. That would really undermine the ban arguments.

I had a Sig Pro .40 stolen out of my locked truck last year. (I had disarmed when I was doing hospital visit and left it in the console. Dumb I know, but it will never happen again.) I called the police and the officer taking the report said I was the 4th report that morning. A Sig, 1 Beretta and 2 Glocks were the haul from our neighborhood. From my conversation with him it sounded like all were similar situations. Carrying under CHL or MPA, all out of sight and all loaded. They don't need gun shows, just a screwdriver.

The good news out of these types of situations is that it re-enforces the need to reduce the number of places that CHLs cannot carry. If you don't have to disarm, it makes the theft a lot harder. I use a safe in the vehicle when this happens. Not impossible to overcome but it will slow the thief down.
