Sheriff Joe Arpaio's "posse" will bolster security after foiled plot targeting a high school in Mesa.
It looks like Joe is the most disliked LEO by anti-gun and gun-grabbers. He is arming more civilians. Yeah, where is the TX version of Mr. Joe Arpaio?

We don't have much to be ashamed of. I think our Governor Perry and Suzanna Gratia Hupp has done more to arm Texans than Sherrif Joe. Come to think of it we have a couple of folks on this forum who have accomplished quite a bit although they haven't sought the publicity that Sheriff Joe has found.

Do you think Sheriff Arpaio "seeks" publicity or does it comes to him as a result of his ahh, imaginative and unorthodox, approach to discharging his responsibilities?

Both. I believe that his imaginative and unorthodox, approach to discharging his responsibilities. often is an approach to get attention. I get the impression that national attention is more important to Sheriff Joe than efficiency.

For the most part, the publicity he has gotten is mostly negative, or slanted that way, or perceived that way. Maybe he needs a new PR department.

I think he just doesn't give a hoot about what anyone thinks. And the liberal media eats it up.

I will say that I know for a fact that people who engage in shady activities tend to avoid Maricopa county like the plague. Ask any touring roadie and they will tell you to avoid Maricopa if you can or smoke all your dope before you get there.
Say what you will but his hard line tactics have had an impact in my line of work.

I think he thrives on the bad publicity too. An old saying goes, " All publicity is good publicity." He has no problem getting re-elected.
The raid on the chicken ranch with Stephen Seagal brought lots of laughs, but not much public concern over dozens of dead chickens and 1 dog all over a raid that was supposed to be to protect animal rights. It didn't come up with any charges against the ranch or its owner.

He definitely is making a difference with his approach. Unfortunately, there are libcourt rulings that prevent Texas from housing convicts in conditions that might rehabilitate them.

The thing is they go charging in with with Cameras, tank and Seagal ...Kill the dog .. Kill 115 chickens. Because they were suspected of running cockfights?? They found no evidence of any cockfight trainings or matches.
Then there were the 60 prostitutes he had to drop charges on because the investigating deputys pursued the case kust a little to far. Apparently someone forgot to tell the deputy involved in the sting that they weren't supossed to go all they way. The fools were even on tape.
