DPS Trooper that does not know 46.02

Had a customer (and neighbor) tell me this morning that a DPS Trooper told him he could not have a handgun in his car, that it was illegal. My customer/neighbor let his CHL expire but he was keeping it in the car under the MPA and when he was pulled over notified the Trooper. I printed him out 46.02 to keep with him but I am surprised a DPS Trooper does not know the law. BTW, this was on highway 6 out of Alvin (if my memory serves me right). If I am incorrect let me know.

Did he preface his statement with "IANAL"?

While this person may have said this, who really knows what happened if anything?

He did not take the handgun which seems strange if he was stating it was not legal. The guy said he did not argue and the Trooper let him go with a warning.

I have found many LEO's, including chiefs that do not know about MPA...including one officer that keeps arguing about it on another forum I am on.

Rifles and shotguns were legal in the vehicle even before MPA.
