Expired Instructor's Certificate

All, my instructors certificate expired in December 2011, and I just never got around to renewing it. I've decided that was a mistake, and I do want to renew it. First, do you know if it's too late to renew, and secondly, can I just file online, pay the $100.00 fee, and then take the test or do I need to attend a class and / or do a range qualification to renew?
TIA!

I am trying to remember from class, but I believe they said if your instructor certification expired that there was no grace period and you would have to take it all over again.
Hopefully someone can correct me if wrong.

FYI, I got a call from TX DPS today. They saw this posting and called me up. There is a two year grace period, so all I have to do to renew my instructor certificate is fill out the online app, and then have a range certification from another instructor. Just thought I'd update this in case anyone else is in the same boat.

TX DPS is reading these forums? Sure hope they saw the posts about DPS Troopers running CHL handgun S/N's!
And HOW STUPID THAT IS!

I was really surprised. I got a voicemail from TX DPS. I called back, and he was asking me about this posting I made on the forum. The only information he really asked me for was my forum name on here.

Did you contact DPS in the first place? If not, how did they know who to contact?

You need 3 things: 1. CHL-100 for proficiency, 2. Online renewal exam, & 3. Pay $100 fee online.

Nope the only contact I've had with anyone on this subject was in this thread until they called me.

I Definitely will. I will probably wait until next month to do it because I'm slammed at work this month, and will be traveling. Thanks!
