On Jan. 22, Sen. Lautenberg of NJ introduced S.33, a bill to prohibit transfer or possession of magazines of more than 10 rd capacity.

A 10 round limit is draconian and I'm sure even some Democrats think so. I'd bet a hefty sum it doesn't get past the Senate. 20? Maybe.

Of course it isn't. That's how democrats do business. They'll roll the bill out about 15 minutes before they have to vote on it. Forum rules prevent me using the kind of descriptive language they deserve. Suffice it to say that it involves unnatural predilections of an oedipal nature.

Don't bet on it being DOA. I think the assault weapon ban itself would be DOA but the political compromises they will make to keep away from that fight put almost everything else on the table, like universal background checks and magazine size limits. I have very little faith in any politician to keep up the fight against all gun control.

Problem is, there is no compromise being offered. Just because they may back off a horrifically ridiculous position to a merely unacceptable on doesn't mean it's a compromise. Don't buy into their games.

Herein lies one of the great challenges of the gun control debate. The anti's put forth a dozen offensive and un-Constitutional measures and then insist that we must let them pass at least two or three of them in order to be "team players" or "willing to compromise". If we remain steadfast and say, "No more compromise - we've done enough of that already," they'll just respond with "The past doesn't matter, you need to compromise now. Think of the children!" And the media and uneducated public will buy it hook, line, and sinker.

The problem is that in the Beltway, the politicians are feeling like they need to do something, particularly the NRA rated Dems and the squishy Repubs. Doing something but not outlawing any weapons, looks to me like accepting universal background checks and magazine limits. So I think magazine limits are very much alive.
