Jimlongley is currently looking for a job, as he was laid off Feb. 23.

For those of us who have been unemployed in the past, we know how much difficulty this brings. Please pray that he gets something quick and good.

Thanks guys, and particularly Venus, that was totally unanticipated.

I am a long time telecom techie. I have been a "Technical Support Engineer" in a variety of jobs, including "Noise Mitigation", Grounding, Power Station Communications Protection, data communications, and switch troubleshooting. Actually, the noise, grounding, data, and power station jobs were simultaneous, just different hats in the same job. It's hard to explain what most of those mean without getting into a training class.

I am also a highly experienced technical trainer.

Been sending out resumes all across the country, I'm strongly reluctant to leave Texas but supporting my wife and myself is primary, but have had nothing but negative replies so far.

Been here before, when I was laid off by Alcatel, but this time I don't have the retirement savings plans to cash in as a fall back, so I might have to go into bankruptcy, not a prospect I look forward to.

With that computer background I will pray & let others help w. the job. I cant even say the things you are good at.

Been down that road also, thats how I came to Texas.
I got layed off the wife to my kids were down here for years so here we are 16 years later citizens of Texas.

Around June of '05 I found myself laid off. I was living in California at the time, and my savings was only going to last 6 months. Jobs in California were scarce. A friend of mine knew of a job opening in Texas, and I jumped on it. Due to my getting laid off, I got the heck out of horrible California, and found my way to this great state with just enough money to manage to move here.

G-d works in strange ways! Getting laid off was one of the best things that ever happend to me.

Being in Telecom, i'll keep my eyes out for you.

If you're willing, please send me a copy of your resume. I can get the resume circulated within Dell (Austin) and HP (Houston).

Of course it will depend if they're looking for your expertise, and if you're willing to relocate, but it may be worth a shot since both companies are currently expanding their IT orgs.

Sending your resume to the HR departments is always a good idea, but having it circulated among the prospective managers is way better. The HR folks only look at "Key" words and compare them to the job descriptions sent down by the managers, and that can lead to a less then complete review of your capabilities. Even if it gets to the recruiter, important skills sets could still be missed.

If you're interested, I'll get your resume to the IT managers for review.

Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out quickly for you.

You should send me a resume with regaurd to technical training. I am an IT-manager for a training company in Austin. We alway's seem to be looking for trainers. Are you by chance a microsoft certified trainer? It sounds like you may do more hardware orented training.

Sorry, not certified, and I'm not really an IT person, I'm long time telephone techie, lots of telecom technical support and training experience, just not much IT.

I installed the first LANs at New York Telephone, and all of the software, PCs, router, switch and everything, but that was a long time ago and I took a different direction with my career.

I will continue for you too. I do not know what I would do if I had to look for a job like you guys do. I cannot imagine being unemployed in 21st Cent. America.
