GOP, NRA - What Is Going On?

The GOP seems to have decided that on the question of universal background checks for gun purchases (an outright ban, in other words, on private sales), not only is discretion the better part of valor, but abject cowardice is the better part of discretion.

As noted in the Huffington Post Tuesday, several GOP senators when asked about the issue appeared absolutely terrified of the question:

"Uh, I don't know what you mean," said Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), who then ended the conversation by turning around and walking into a room where senators were having lunch, closing the door behind him.

"I need to have more details. I, you know, I just need -- you need to ask me after I've talked to our judiciary staff in our office," said Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), also heading to the Senate lunch. "I hate to respond just in the hallway, so I won't."

"I've got -- my wife's here. I'm sorry. I've gotta -- thanks," said Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.).

NRA Leader Wayne LaPierre Responds to Obama's Inaugural Address
Completely understood, Senator--no one should be expected to answer whether or not he favors banning private gun sales within his wife's hearing. Even Tea Party "firebrand" Rand Paul claims not to have decided yet on the issue.
We have to pay attention to what is going on.

I'll bet this becomes the "compromise" or sacrificial lamb. The dumbocrats will back off on everything else if the NRA gives in on background checks.

To me that would say there is some thought in the mind of the NRA that more could pass, so let's bargain away something that will have a minimal effect.

Of course they could just point out that CGA '68 was a compromise to begin with, so maybe we need to start at a baseline before that.

I have trouble with any information coming from the Huffington Post that purports to quote Republicans and/or conservatives. They will use any mis-quotes, out of context quotes, or outright lies to split the pro-2A forces. Do you know why we lose so much? Because we throw our folks under the bus...those people on that side, they all stick together and circle the wagons to protect their own...but we are only too willing to believe what some liberal-progressive tells us one of our folks said. We can trust the folks on our side and maybe lose...or we can trust the other side and most certainly lose.

We need to support our representatives who are fighting for our civil rights, not snipe at them. Why would you believe anything that comes from an Anti?

And here I thought that the November election had actually taught us something. We can't continue to allow the liberal msm darlings to dictate our fight & our strategy. Our fight isn't against the NRA or the Washington Republicans. Our fight is against the liberal, busy-body, do-gooders that think that they know what's best for everybody. And by the way, those are the same folks who take every opportunity to twist and/or shred the US Constitution every chance they get. If we have any chance at putting things right, we MUST stop eating our own!! The Republican primary was a bloodbath because we allowed the msm to dictate the issues instead of presenting a message based on solid, core, conservative principles. So if a group of Senators are refusing to do an ad hoc interview concerning a very complex issue in the hallway on their way to lunch, that shouldn't be news at all. NOBODY does business that way. And since most of the proposed Senate bills haven't even been published in-full, it's practically impossible to provide an intelligent and well thought out reaction to them.

Sure, there are some in the GOP leadership that could use a double dose of backbone. But that doesn't mean that the cause is lost. Just look at statements from Senators & Representatives that are fighting for us & you'll see that there are quite a few that have drawn a line in the sand. This whole thing is going to be a long fight that's not going to be won overnight. So don't let them split us apart this early in the game.

Statement from Chris W. Cox Regarding "Universal" Background Checks

Posted on January 25, 2013
An article appearing on TheHill.com yesterday asserted that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) is working on a bill with the NRA that would implement universal background checks.

NRA does NOT support universal background checks and is not working with Manchin to implement this type of legislation. NRA opposes, and will continue to oppose, universal background checks and registration schemes.

We do believe that records of those who are prohibited by law from purchasing firearms (including those whose mental health history puts them in this category) ought to be included in the federal instant check system.

I was reading on Fox this morning how Obama was complaining about the Republicans in the House and how they will not pass any Gun Control Legislation. I heard Angels singing while I was reading.

The reason I posted this story was for information.

IMNSHO, even bad information needs to be verified.

We must take no chances.

Trust, but verify! And don't fall into the trap that the anti's are trying to lay out. They'll do anything they can to divide us. Shame on them for trying, but worse shame on us for allowing it to happen. United we stand!!
