GEICO, if I remember right, is short for Government Employees Insurance CO (of Ohio possibly) so being that it was/is a Govt run entity, that is no surprise to me.

Gieco is controlled by Warren Buffet, a Obama supporter and financial backer. Big surprise that Buffet is doing this. It goes both ways. Why do you think Obama won't approve the Keystone pipeline? It has nothing to do with environmental issues as the press reports. It has to do with lining his buddy Buffets pockets with cash. The railroad that is transporting a huge amount of crude around the country is controlled by Buffet and he is making a fortune railing the crude to the markets. The extra cost of transporting by rail vs pipeline adds about $10.00 a barrel to the price of that crude. You and I end up paying that cost.

I'm glad I dropped Geico a long time ago. They tripled my auto rates because "I live so close to the border." When I called them on that I explained that I was more than 2 1/2 hours from the border and the year prior to that I was living 17 miles from the border in AZ. In fact it was cheaper to insure my vehicles when I was in Hawaii.

Couldn't give me a good answer to justify tripling the rates. I figured that they really didn't want my business that bad.

Just don't change to Progressive. The "owner" is a huge progressive supporter giving millions and millions of dollars to progressive causes. When I cancelled my policy I told them why. They tried to explain that he's no longer running the company, and I said, you're not fooling me. He's Chairman of the Board and Majority stock holder, and when you make a profit he funnels it to communists. Cancel the policy.

I'm paying more now for car insurance (not much more), but I'm no longer feeding that Marxist monster.

Add this to the reasons why I will not give Geico my business.

I asked them for a quote to insure one of my vehicles a few years ago. I decided to stick with my current company because no better options existed. Geico saw this as an invitation to flood my mailbox with junk mail for the last few years.

Just told the wifey to call around on her day off and find us a new insurance carrier. She will then emphatically tell GEICO why we are dropping them.

Suggest Farm Bureau. The savings more than offset the $51/year membership fee.

I am skeptical here. I've had GEICO before and I have never before seen letterhead that actually spelled out the Government Employees Insurance Company. Also like some in the comments of the article pointed out, this cancellation notice was sent before the CT shooting happened. There is more to that story than that alarmist article indicates.

GEICO has never hid what their acronym represented - it's even been stated in their TV ads.
