Paul Ryan 2016 stance on gun control? (amended title)

(After reading the responses to this original post, I amended the title of my post so as to avoid giving the impression to those just reading titles that Paul Ryan is for gun control.) (TG)
Paul Ryan may be planning to run in 2016. He already has commented that he may be open to gun control measures:
Ryan hinted at one controversial issue on which he might agree with Obama: The need for stricter regulations on gun registration, including background checks.

“The question of whether or not a criminal is getting a gun is a question we need to look at,” he said. “We need to look into making sure there aren’t big loopholes where a person can illegally purchase a firearm.”
Rep. Ryan's quote from the linked article.
I to support denying criminals access to firearms, don't you? I want to eliminate illegal firearm sales, don't you?
"Ryan hinted at one controversial issue on which he might agree with Obama: The need for stricter regulations on gun registration, including background checks."
This is spin from the articles author. Ryan didn't hint at anything, he made two statements. Neither one said anything about stricter regulations, registration or background checks.

I see your point. Does Ryan have a history of strong support of the Second Amendment?

There needs to be more clarification on his comments about loopholes. This is antigun speak for FTF personal transactions.
I like Ryan's views on the budget and pro-life issues.
These career politicians need to be up front on all views, however, he had his chance as VP candidate. Time to give someone else a turn.

If it comes down to Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton or Paul Ryan I know who will get my vote. Ryan should clarify exactly where he stands on gun control. It looks like Sarah Palin is going to run again. Only time will tell...

More the reason why the collectivist progressives never want him elected.

I don't have any problem with stricter background checks or any tighter measure that would restrict the mentally ill's access to firearms. Those do not necessarily restrict the 2A - as long as you aren't a felon or someone who struggles with an illness that can statistically be linked to mass shootings.

How many people would seek help if they knew their doctor/shrink was a spy for the Feds?

I guess it kind of depends on what is considered to be Mentally Ill. The Soviets stated that anyone that was against the State was Mentally Ill and was usually hospitalized. I have read where many of our Intelligentsia states that those who like firearms are Mentally Ill. How about returning Vets? Shoot alot of Civilians believe if you were in combat that by default you are suffering from some kind of psychosis. Read the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and see how many times it has changed in the last 30 years. All it takes is some Psychological type expert to state that you are mentally ill and off you go, and it could have been mostly politically motivated. I have issues with some felonies as well, such as selling orchids in California, violation of the Lacey Act; (example), but at least you should know what line not to cross by simply reading/researching the Law. How do you prove you are not crazy? Especially when it all hangs on one person's beliefs, no jury trial required.

I have no doubt Ryan is 100% on our side.
Nobody wants more mass killings. That means we need to be able to reliably identify the kind of people that shouldn't have or be near guns, and we should heavily prosecute those that cannot legally own a gun from further attempts to purchase (and it happens more than you might think with FFLs).
Ryan has pointed out, as we all have, that it's not the GUNS (or magazines) that are the problem. Let's be open to ideas that keep the wrong people from getting guns. That doesn't mean banning private sales at all, but perhaps if we gave sellers the _ ability_ to know they're selling to people that can legally own a gun. We're smart people, and we don't want the bad guys to get or use guns. Let's put some effort into thinking about how we can do that, without violating the fundamental rights we have.

And who is the one defining mental illness. I preach the gospel of Christ just as plain & uncompromised as I wave Old Glory. I have been called crazy.
I have been told by one dear Saint now gon to heaven, Bro. Jerry, they are going to arrest you for that one of these days. & she was on our side.
I was told by a "Family Representative" of the Huge Clan in the small country church to get the politics out of the pulpit go back to preachin the Bible. Next Sunday I had only time to READ & comment very little. Virtually every Old Testament Prophet was told by God "Go say unto the king"....
Couple of Sundays later I was handed a list of names (all the same last name of that family clan) that would be at the next business meeting. Baptist church. They said I was crazy & preachin politics.
Needless to say I am not there any more.
Who will decide when I become or became mentally ill. Probably not anyone on this board.
