Just got my 2013 Instructor Renewal notice in the mail.
Looks like all we do is go online, complete the app, and pay the money.

I don't see ANYTHING that references testing or proficiency.
Just pay the money.

Guess they're more efficient that way...

Mine came today it calls for a CHL 90 to be filled out. There are no CHL 90's online. I guess I'll call them in the morning.

I guess DPS doesn't like me; I didn't get an invitation to come back.

Frankly, there's no real point in us doing any more. We teach this stuff all the time, so there's every reason to believe we know it.

I think you only have to shoot every other renewal (4 years.)

This could be dropped also, in my opinion. How well an instructor shoots is not relevant to whether or not a student passes the DPS shooting course.

There was talk about this in Instructors class this spring. I believe they are trying more and more to move direction.

True. As long as instructors can't self-certify to renew their own CHL (if they have one) then the shooting test can be dropped for instructor renewals and only make instructors shoot every 4 years for CHL renewal.
Or get rid of renewal tests for everyone, like for driving.

I seem to remember that an instructor can renew his CHL by just paying the fee, as the instructors cert is sufficient. Is that still true? My CHL expires in late 2014, which the upcoming cert would cover.

My checklist said I needed a CHL-90 but it is not available and is a "instructors application". I think I will wait til next week and then check my status..

As far as I know, that is still true. You send a copy of the instructor cert, instead of the CHL-100, and you are good to go.
