It's official....

My Texas CHL expires today at midnight. Looks like I will be carrying on my Utah non resident for a little while. Paid for my renewal. Now I need to schedule and take my class. What a pain!!

I have gone full circle. Started in the waiting room of the forum while waiting for my first CHL. Maybe I will hang out here while I wait for my renewal. It is the waiting room.

I took my renewal class in December - can't do anything online until the first of March.

There's talks about changing the law to where you can still carry after the expiration/new chl comes through. Hopefully it goes through.

Signed up for my renewal class. It is on valentines day. I am confused about something. The class hours are 8am - 12pm. I thought it was a five hour class requirement. Maybe not. :???:

Why wait for the last second? :headscratch

I have a Utah permit that does not expire until 2014 and, quite frankly, the whole idea of sitting in a renewal class for four hours has the same appeal as a defensive driving class. :totap:

Find good class instructor and the time would fly quick. 1/2 hr is for range Qualification and 3.5 for the class.Reviewing new laws and changes is good for your health and pocket. Keeping up with new regulations is critical for your deadly weapon deployment.

I really don't see it as waiting to the last second. I have a Utah permit that I can legally carry under. Just as legally as if I am carrying under my Texas CHL.

As far as the idea that it is somehow beneficial for the government to require we jump through hoops and take a class to exercise our constitutional rights, I completely disagree.

Utah, for instance, requires nothing more than sending in a ten dollar renewal fee. Utah issues a first time permit based on a four or five hour class and no shooting requirement. While it is still a violation of my constitutionally guaranteed right, at least it isn't designed in a way that will deny the right to people of lower income status.

A law that requires we seek the all mighty governments permission to exercise a constitutional right is appalling to me. On any and all levels. I hold my nose and play the little game. Not because I find it an honor, but because I am required to. :tiphat:

My class is in the morning. I just read the list of stuff to bring and they have 50 rounds of ammo on the list. I could have sworn I took a hundred the first time I shot for my CHL. Fifty were practice and then fifty for the test. Am I remembering it wrong? How many rounds do we fire for the test?

50 for test. I always take 100 just in case but both classes I've taken we only did 50.

Thank you. Darn... I was hoping I would get to do some extra shooting! :fire

Our renewal class met at the range at 10:30 (initial class students met with the instructor earlier). Wife and I got there a couple hours earlier and shot until the others got there. The range didn't charge us for the extra time.

Now that would be a fun class!

Got her done! We were finished by 12:15. I actually enjoyed it. It was not the beat down I remember from my first class. The instructor stayed on point. The first class I took made me want to cut my wrists! Every clown in that class had a what if question and they were all ridiculous to the point of silly. This guy had a note written on the board. There are no what ifs for getting a CHL. I liked it. Making a lucid trip to the absurd is only interesting to the person driving the car... IMHO.

Anyway.., pretty good class and I did pick up some good info I had forgotten from four years ago. Glad I went. :coolgleamA:
