I'm a little confused about the checklist process.

I applied online for both my chl and my instructor's license. I got my fingerprints done by l-1 and now it's my understanding that all they need is my barcode checklist, chl6 with photos, and a chl100.
Now I called them because I couldn't find the chl100. The lady I spoke with on the phone said to email and request the chl 100. She also said that I could indicate on the chl6 that I only wants to use my drivers license photo and that would be enough.
I just want to make sure that she is telling me correct information and to even see if I can get the 100 form without taking a regular chl class first and furthermore what I need to do to get in the next scheduling for the instructor's class. Thanks for any help.

You can use your DL photo. It was a checkbox in the online app.
As for the CHL-100, your CHL Instructor will give that to you upon successful completion. Although, it may be different since you applied for both CHL & instructor at the same time.

As for the CHL-6, that's the form you get from DPS at the completion of your instructor's class. You can choose to wait until you are scheduled for a class, and get your CHL-100 at the same time (I know they'll issue them along with the CHL-6, since instructor's credentials will suffice as evidence of training) but you may not want to wait that long. I don't know when the next class is (someone on here probably will.)
The CHL-100 is the form that we as instructors issue to our students who have completed the class. So you will either have to attend and complete a regular Texas CHL class to obtain the CHL-100, or wait until your instructor's class and obtain it at the same time as the CHL-6.
I know that there is a provision to get your CHL issued at the same time as your instructor license, but I haven't seen it done personally, since everyone in my class was already CHL.
If you do choose to wait until your instructor's class, make sure you go through both processes at that time--it is possible to have CHL instructor's credentials and not have a CHL. I think someone said there were actually a very small number of people (single digits if I recall) who went this route.
You won't save a penny in state fees by doing them both at once, but you will save yourself the cost of a standard 10-hour CHL class.
Hope this helps!

Not this?

Yeah, I've got the chl6 form. It's the 100 form that I'm unsure about.
I suppose I just have to wait until they schedule the instructor's class and then after that I will get the 100 form from whoever is teaching that one and then I send everything else in with the 100.

If you are trying to bypass taking the regular CHL class, and want to get the license by taking the instructor class, then you send in a copy of your instructor certificate instead of the CHL-100. Al least, that is how it works when you renew your CHL as an instructor. I would ask for clarification when you take your instructor class, just to be sure.
However, I would recommend you actually take the CHL class from a reputable instructor. That way, you get another take on how the class is done. Just my opinion.

Right now any new Instructor applicants are being told they have to already have a previous handgun instructor certification from NRA or a law enforcement agency. This is per the statute for certifying an instructor for CHL. If you already have the outside instructors cert, then you could potentially go to the instructors class and get your CHL and Instructors certificate in one class. However, I agree with Crossfire and think it is wise if you go to a good CHL class first so you know how the class is conducted.

Plus at the rate they are scheduling instructor classes, you can get your CHL six months earlier if you take get a CHL-100 and send it now.

Good catch. I was working too late in the night for all the neurons to fire :)
I was thinking of the Instructor's completion certification. The CHL-6 is the photo-holder. :)

Ok guys, I'm an idiot.
It's not the CHL-100 form that I'm lacking right now but the CHL-90 form instead. Everything from my original post is still correct. The lady told me to email customer service for the 90 form because you can't download it from the DPS site right now because it's being updated or something. I have emailed customer service too. Now that I'm remembering about the 90 form she said I wouldn't have to worry about the 100 form until my class was scheduled and taken.
(from the dps website)
CHL-90.pdf - The Concealed Handgun License (CHL) form for Instructor Applicants Only is being updated. Please visit Customer Service, select “Concealed Handgun” and complete the form indicating that you need an instructor’s application.

This is correct. I assume you are already a certified NRA or law enforcement handgun instructor? If not, you will have to be before taking the Instructor class.

I am not. So I need to go through the NRA, get that documentation, and then bring it with me once the class is scheduled? Will I have time to do all that before it's scheduled? My buddy's class is this month but he waited around 5 months before he got the schedule email from them? I'll do whatever I have to and it's not a bad idea to get certified/join the NRA in the first place. I just want to make sure I don't lose that money because I missed a step.

Yes, you will have to not only join the NRA, but take a class from them to become a certified pistol instructor before going to the CHL instructor class. Timing will depend on when you get scheduled for your CHL instructor class. If you are not signed up yet, then you can probably expect a similar amount of time as your friend between applying and being scheduled for the class.
EDIT TO ADD: The NRA Pistol Instructor course is 17 hours total unless you are already a NRA certified instructor in another discipline (rifle, shotgun, etc.)

Would the NRA instructor pistol shooting course as it's listed on the NRA website be a good example of the class I'd need to take?
Also do you know how long I have to get the checklist items turned in? I'm hoping I'll have enough time to take a class and have all my papers before they schedule the class. I have a feelin I'm sol though.

Having just gotten the answer to this question myself, I can answer this for you! Yep. But you also need the NRA Basic Instructor Training. Make sure you check with the training counselor you select to ensure you get the right course. I'm taking the NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor (which ncludes the Basic Instructor Training) and Basic Pistol Instructor on the 23rd & 24th in Royse City.
