First Sandy, now snowstorm. I'm tired.

I sympathize with the victims of Sandy, knowing first hand the effects of a hurricane (as many here do I'm sure), but I was just getting over the constant never ending coverage for the past months and now we'll be hearing the same type of coverage for the blizzard. I contrast the media blitz for Sandy with what we heard (or didn't hear) on Mississippi and Alabama after Katrina and Bolivar Peninsula after Ike. Sorry, Rant over

With most the media in this country being based in the northeast, it's human nature that when they and theirs are suffering, it gets more airplay. Then, again, there are some 35-40 million people living in the northeast, so it's a Lot of folks being affected by this storm (not to exclude the Canadians in lower Ontario and Quebec who are getting that stuff as well).

Yeah, but those Canucks are tough when it comes to winter storms. This won't even knock 'em out of stride.

It will be all tied to Climate Change (formally global warming), it will be Bush's fault, it will be my fault because I don't pedal my bike to work. They will want billions of dollars of disaster relief, cause they didn't carry flood insurance, but live fifty feet from the ocean.

Carry insurance people. Its the weather. Its called weather cause it changes and sometimes it's bad.

Sorry.

I'm ranting.

Mass. Governor Duval Patrick signed an executive order banning all vehicles from roadways starting at 4 p.m. today. Ban applies to all roadways, including highways and secondary roads. Anyone caught driving after 4 p.m. faces up to one year in jail and $500 fine. There are 1,000 National Guard troops, and Patrick said nearly 5,000 would be in place over the course of the weekend. The order is “outright ban on all roads” with no set time for when it will be lifted. MEMA Director Kurt Schwartz said that the maximum penalty for people who violate the ban is one year imprisonment.Good test case for the future? lolol

Ain't our government great. My dad (New Yorker by birth) packed up my older brother (4 years old) along with my twin brother and myself (infants), my mother, a Golden Retriever, a Beagle, about 50 bucks in cash into his 1937 Dodge and left New York City to come to the great state of Texas where he had met my mom while attending Texas A&M. The day we left 24 inches of snow had fallen during the night. I guess we' couldn't have left if we'd been in Massachusetts. :biggrinjester: He arrived with all of us and 11 bucks to his name. Ironically about a year later in January 1949 Houston got 2.6 inches of snow.

Your father was a genius. My husband and I & 4 young children, packed up, sold everything and left a thriving business. We took a roll of the dice by moving to a state where we knew not a soul about 7 years ago. I pray that they will someday recount our story like you just did and understand the impact of getting them out of that hellhole.

My niece (lives in Toronto) tells me she just fires up the dog sled after she gets of out the igloo, and she's ready to go! :thumbs2:

When we moved back to Texas after 11 years living in Alaska, some folks here actually thought we lived in igloos. No joke. This was, of course, before all the Alaska reality shows on cable showed that, other than the unbelievable scenery, Alaska is a really pretty tacky looking place, but does have houses.

Freedom of movement was such a basic freedom no one thought to put it in the Bill of Rights. It needs to be part of the Bill of Rights. People vote with their feet and leave places like New York and move to Texas for example. I can see a time when lets say California decides that maybe you can leave their state, but your income can't, or they just flat say you cant leave with your money if your rich enough. Or the lefties decide travel is too polluting and prohibit interstate travel, or require permits like they did in Russia.

This went viral, it was a perfect summary of the hilarity that ensues in the name of government there. The lady in the back is a former elected "Sheriff" who now is the Public Safety Chief. This video should win some kind of award. :smilelol5:
