I've never done the Mardi Gras thing. After watching the videos I see I have not missed anything.

Buncha idiots... it does gives you a new perspective why some LEO's don't want guns being carried there...

Wonder what they hoped to "win" by throwing things?
They wanted to "occupy" the street or something?
Wonder why some peoples' brains function how they do ... assuming all weren't Democrats, then probably alcohol has a bit to do with it, seems to on most COPS shows.

Yeah not sure I want me or my family in a place where the number of drunks out number the amount of ammo I have on me!

In the 30 yrs I lived in NO I never saw people behave this way at parades. Of course a lot of that might have something to do with the NOPD. You didn't mess with that bunch.

I was in Galveston for the festivities this weekend, however, not at the Strand, only the seawall area. Went to the Strand this morning and heard the stories from shopkeepers and am really glad I wasn't in attendance.

Large crowds, alcohol and or drug impaired judgment, and mob mentality are the reasons I avoid fests like Mardi Gras. There are enough potentially dangerous places; there's no sense in placing myself in intentionally in harm's way just to have a "good time."

No kidding. Somebody gets the littlest bit out of line and suddenly there's four mounted police, 4 that are walking the beat, two cars, and somebody face down on the pavement

What's really interesting is that they're really good at sussing out the "silly drunk" from the "about to throw a hissy fit" drunk.

Agreed. I had to appease the wife, so, probably enough said. I'm like a dog and like routines myself(boring) ..this was not routine-I could not wait to get home.

I have never found the thought of attending Mardi Gras attractive, and I like to drink and party. Not so much now but have been known to.
I think part of this has been that I have never found the French Quarter a nice place to visit.

Galveston and the Strand is much nicer than the FQ, IMNSHO.

My idea of a party now is sipping adult beverages with my lovely wife while watching our pet woildlife in La Grange.

"while many revelers went on with their partying despite the violence."
No biggie. A few people getting shot on bourbon street doesn't even cause a panic much less a riot.
Laissez les bons temps rouler.

I almost went to the Strand that Saturday, but I decided it wasn't worth the money. The free Seawall parade was nice though, aside from a fat lip I received courtesy of some enthusiastic bead throwers. The chaotic scene goes on for a good 10 minutes on the video before the police start to do anything. It would be nice if they could keep this from happening next year, or at least break it up before it turns into this.
