Cop: Hey sarge, we found a five shot revolver on the perp.
Sarge: Hurry and get an AR-15 and a couple of Glocks and plant them on the perp. We can't lose this opportunity to make the "assault weapon" ban point.

While this is a tragedy for those injured, the cynical side of me wonders, "If only they had banned weapons in the courthouse, then maybe this wouldn't have happened."

Then the logical side of me says, "If only they hadn't banned weapons in the courthouse, then maybe this wouldn't have been as bad."

What is this position and attitude? Is there some history here with reports of LEO's planting weapons on criminals to further the "assault weapon" ban :headscratch

Police however did say that the gunman never breached the security perimeter beyond the metal detectors inside the courthouse.
Well then, obviously a defective sign caused this. If no sign advised that it was a gunfree zone where people can *feel* safe...

The shooting occurred outside of the "gun free zone" Armed guards likely prevented a greater tragedy, yet it's like the outside the courthouse Texas shooting last week, similar to college campuses, it's "essentially for all practical purposes, mostly" gun-free since it's about to enter a gunfree zone, much like airports aren't, but are practically if one intends going past a point...

Then the realistic side of me says, "Even banning weapons from the courthouse won't stop a scofflaw."

You have touched on an interesting point.

Just outside the gun free zone, is just as dangerous or more so than the gun free zone. As the BG knows your going in there, so everyone is unarmed.

My greatest fear at the airport is not being radiated or fondled, its that with everyone all crowded together in those giant lines before going through security, it is the perfect spot for a terrorist to do his dirty deed. Lots of people all close together and no one armed. If you remember in Iraq, how many times did they attack lines of applicants or lines of people picking up their paychecks. Scares me every time I wait at the airport.

Now you laugh about the kitchen knife but, somewhere in the UK or over there somewhere, they are actually trying to ban them.

You never know. On Newtown the reports of what weapons and how many weapons were used changed from hour to hour. 2 handguns, 2 handguns and an AR, 4 handguns. To this day I have not heard exactly what he had and what he used to shoot those kids. Have you?

I heard the ME say the rounds used were designed to cause maximum tissue damage. Sounds like JHP to me. That was before the "he shot everyone but himself with the AR" claim.
