time to get on the phone to my reps again

The ACLU is on the warpath because of the 100 mile border area where the Feds claim the right to search for contraband coming across the border. The right against unreasonable search and seizure collides with the interest in suppressing smuggling.

When are the "true-believer" types on the political left going to realize that the dude in office and his cronies do not really care about them, that they are simply being used to bludgeon the rest of us? I'm going to guess never...because they think that if BHO and the Democrat Party get full control that they'll be showered with everything wonderful...reality is, though, that it just ain't going to happen. This mess is a true example of the "law of unintended consequences". I'd guess that many of the Republicans who originally voted for stuff like the Patriot Act thought it would be used against foreign terrorists, and maybe the occasional high-level crook. Unfortunately, once a power apparatus is put into place, it can be misused by anyone in control of it, as it is now.

Funny. That band includes all major US cities that support strict gun controls. I see a pattern.

If the federal government was really concerned about national security, they would be doing a better job of physically securing the borders from anyone crossing illegally, not seizing electronic devices within 100 miles of a border. Another sad thing is that this doesn't affect just travelers moving through that 100 mile stretch, but also people living in that area.

This is one of the reasons you belong to the NRA and the ACLU.
