And for another perspective - I feel sorry for this young man.

With that mess on his face (and for the record, I have a tattoo, but you can't see it unless I take my shirt off) he won't readily get a good job. Even restroom attendants can't look like him...

I would also guess his I.Q. is less than adequate...

In my personal opinion, I think maybe 1 or 2% of the tattoos that I see are anything resembling "artistic." The rest look like they were applied in a dive in some disreputable third-world country.

This is a fairly broad question in criminology.

Most likely the average burglar, robber, or car thief either has a congenitally low IQ or suffered some kind of severe abuse that resulted in brain damage.

On the other hand, there are plenty of smart crooks. The guys who ran Enron were such. Some smart crooks are in Congress.

I would venture a guess most, irrespective of party, are criminals.

Look at their investment history and that enough will tell you.

They are just lucky.

For years I have been amazed how lucky U.S. senators are. The longer they are in office, the luckier they get.

A bank robber who comes in the front door and sticks up a cashier might get a couple of thousand dollars on a good day (for him) if he doesn't get arrested or shot. A crooked executive might get a billion and retire to some tax haven that doesn't have extradition.

Their list is based on the reports members of the Senate and House are required to file, which significantly affects the precision of the estimates, since assets, income, and liabilities are reported in categories (e.g. $1M to $5M) rather than exact amounts.

Not all are Senators.

Seven of the top 10 richest members are Democrats, the party of the little people someone told me once. I think it was Joe Biden.

The top two places are held by Republicans (neither a senator, the top one from Texas), number 3 is Senator (now SecState, I guess) Mr. Theresa Heinz-Kerry, then comes six more Democrats, then one more Republican.

Senator I-can-have-a-concealed-handgun-but-all-you-rubes-need-to-give-up-yours Feinstein is at number 9.

Poor Nancy Pelosi, she doesn't even break into the top 10, she is only number 12, despite all her shenanigans, er....I mean hard work when she was House Minority Leader. Looks like she didn't need to pass every piece of legislation to figure out what was in it. For her.

Reading through Roll Call's summaries, it appears that the most lucrative investment you can make if you want to be a rich member of Congress is to marry a fabulously wealthy spouse.

That's all for now, I am going to go yell at my wife about why it is her fault I will never be a rich member of Congress. Of course, neither will she.
