I will be heading to the Toyota Center for a non-sporting event. I have read it has 30.06 signage, however, it is also owned by Harris County, so my understanding is that this makes the 30.06 signage invalid.

My question is in regards to verbal notification. Should I be verbally notified say by someone at the door, would this prohibit me from carrying, or does the verbal notification come under the 30.06 provision?

Verbal comes under 30.06 as the whole language, not just signage requirements are there. Just make sure that you are correct about it being owned by the county, that you aren't violating any other provision (such as there being court offices, etc), be aware that you may take a ride if caught, and that concealed means concealed.

FWIW, I've carried in places that had invalid 30.06 postings with nary a problem. I even carried at the gun show in Dallas Market Hall a month or so ago.

I agree concealed means concealed, however, I was thinking about the following scenario:

Walk up to door and see they are wanding everyone. Mention to the police officer or security guard that you have CHL. I would not be surprised if that person said "you cannot carry here". Obviously regardless of whether or not they are legally in the right, I can't just ignore them and walk on by.

I'm just trying to make sure that I fully understand the letter of the law in this scenario.

Ah. Well, in that case I'd ask to speak with a supervisor and get the officer's name. If it wasn't resolved at the supervisor's level, and I just had to go in there, then I'd disarm, go in, complete my business, and leave. And as soon as I got home I'd be on the phone, email, and snail mail to whatever responsible party I could get hold of.

And that's really about all you can do.

The only court in the Toyota Center is the basketball court and it is definitively owned by the city.
