Made a mistake on app, will it get flagged?

I did everything by mail and the app and packet full of paperwork was delivered to DPS on 2/28. I now have to wait until they send me a letter to get my finger prints done then after that I wait.

I found out yesterday I made a mistake on my app. I moved into my house on July of 2008, I thought it was in January of 2008. So on the app where it asks if you have lived in the current address for 5yrs I marked Yes. Do yall think they will catch this and kick it back? I hope it don't cause a delay. I didn't do this on purpose it was a legit mistake.

IMO, I think you will be close enough. I think the point is so that DPS can check with the cities where you have lived in the last 5 years for any arrest.
YMMV

<ooops> it might not be a bad idea to call DPS and ask them if you need to file an amendment. My guess is you're good, but????

Thanks for the replies, I think Im going to not say or do anything unless they catch it and I doubt they will. My g/f told me this yesterday and I was shocked. I just knew I moved in during January but a quick check and it was July. Oh well, if they catch it Ill send them whatever they need, if not then no harm no foul.

the problem with doing that is they "can" say that you did it wrong and you don't get a license...they probably won't, but they can, and no they might not even catch it, but do you want to run the risk? however, if you're pro-active well, you can prevent that from happening with a phone call, yes, you'll be on the phone for a while, but I think it would be worth it.

:iagree:

Not only that, but is it not also possible (but hopefully not probable) to be charged with falsifying a government document? I seem to remember reading somewhere (here?) where a person was charged for putting incorrect info on their app. If the OP is proactive, however, that would or should lessen the odds of that happening.

If you were living in the same city, different address, prior to July, 2008, it likely wouldn't matter anyway becasue there would be no criminal record anyway. If you did have an issue in another city or county, then you should have already reported that. July, 2008 to March, 2013 is 4 years and 8 months. Presuming no cirminal history at any time, don't worry about it. That's 5 years, give or take.

If the addresses you give don't match the address history DPS has for your DL, and the difference is bigger than the window, that's evidence you either made a false statement on the CHL application, or you failed to update your DL within the grace period window.

Haha I doubt the FBI is going to kick down my door and take me away for making a simple mistake. I didn't do it on purpose and if they catch it they will send me a letter requesting that I send additional information. If they don't then I will not worry about it. Saying that I could be charged with falsifying a government document is reaching pretty far out there.

Im going to call and see what they want me to do. Im not emailing them cause it took them 2.5 weeks to respond last time.

All I am getting is a busy signal, can't get through.

Finally got through and due to high call volume they are no longer taking calls at this time. Guess Ill have to wait till next week to call. I should just let it ride and see if they kick it back or not, way to much hassle to call and be on hold forever and they stop taking calls 3hrs before they close. At work I don't have time to be on hold for a hour, only option is to take off just to make a phone call. Ill try to call next week and see what they want me to do. Last time I called right at 8am and was only on hold for 10mins.

I'm pretty sure on my app I was off on that date, as well as a couple of my employment history dates due to the fact I listed jobs from back when I was a teenager and did not keep good record of stuff.I wrote them a letter disclosing all of this and sent it in with the app. I was fine, got my app in exactly 40 days. They never even tried contacting me about anything. Maybe for your peace of mind it would be nice to call and let them know "hey I was off a few months on a date", but I don't think being exact on dates matters all that much(I'm not saying do this on purpose, but people do make honest mistakes). So if my app breezed through you shouldn't be delayed one bit for something so menial, especially if you call and let them know when you get a chance. No big deal!

When you submit those docs, they do say that missing or false information will result in delays in your application and possibly prosecution. That said, I would think that most people who actually get into trouble do so because they intentionally lied, usually about criminal history or some such (say in another state) and DPS finds out about it. I would imagine for a difference in address dates, if they catch it, they would just send you a letter back stating that you need to submit a CHL-78B supplemental form.

Whenever one signs an application, it is signed to "the best of your knowledge and belief". There is a difference between error and fraud. So I personally wouldn't worry about "the sky is falling" warnings.

However, you do know now. Simplest is to send DPS a letter, certified mail return receipt, that simply states you made a minor error in your application, wish to correct it, and provide the corrected date. I wouldn't even worry about trying to call or email -- sending USPS certified mail is sufficient notice.
