What exactly is in this??

So, I finally got my CHL in the mail a few days ago. I noticed it has the magnetic strip on the back as does the Texas DL. I know this contains some sort of embedded information. Can anyone tell me exactly whats on it? What is it used for? Has anyone had their CHL swiped thru a reader?

I don't know for an absolute fact, but supposedly the magnetic strips on the driver license and CHL contain your basic demographic information (name, DOB, etc.). It can be used to prevent forgery, such as occurs with minors trying to buy booze and illegal immigrants.

I ran mine through a mag-strip reader once. I don't remember exactly what it had, but mostly just the information that's on the front.

Don't have mine yet so I don't know for sure but I've read That when you go to the Capitol DPS will swipe your CHL and are able to verify it's current status.

I can't imagine a minor wanting to by an illegal immigrant!

Why not? Some minors have a lot of money (usually from trust funds), and illegal immigrants work cheap and don't complain a whole lot.

It's a good gig. Minimum two years of guaranteed salary, health insurance, a comfy office, and travel expenses unless they totally yank the poodle's tail. Miscellaneous fringe benefits and bribes—er—stipends and honoraria.

Quick - wrap the license in aluminum foil - about 6-7 times will do it! THEY are tracking your location...

They already make metal wallets for that reason.
The problem isn't so much "da gub'mint" tracking you. They can already do that. It's the possibility of identity theft from the RFIDs that are going into passports and some states' driver licenses.
