I'm in the market for a .22 rifle, kick myself everyday for not buying last fall when I dicided I need one.
I really want the Ruger 10/22, however Bass Pro Academy and Wally world haven't seen one in a couple of weeks.
Bass Pro did have a few Marlin 60's on Wednesday.
Any suggestions or comments on any .22 rifle that would be available in the under $300 range would be much appreciated.
I'm trying to decide if I should settle for the Marlin or just wait it out for the Ruger.

I personally feel the Marlin 60 is hard to beat. I have one that is about 30 years old and it still shoots like a champ. I can't remember for sure, but I think I paid around $78 bucks for it back in the day. Not sure what they are going for now, but it has always shot great and is very accurate. It cycles reliably and about 90% of the ammo that has been through it is whatever the very cheapest thing available was at the time. Just a good, solid, blue collar gun in my opinion.

I have both a Marlin and two 10/22. Sentimental value for the Marlin but 10/22s have the edge in reliability. And especially after market accessories. 10/22s seem to be the "go to gun" if you ever try an Appleseed clinic (highly recommended).
Not sure of status now, but a FFL friend said last week, possibly some used 10/22s coming to him for consignment sales. If interest, contact via

Saw some Henry's at the local Academy's today. I think they were $279. I've got the Golden Boy as well as the others mentioned and like them all.

Well, I decided to stop by Bass Pro just to look around and see if maybe they still had one of the Marlins on the rack. I had already called this morning to check on the Ruger and they said they haven't seen one in a couple of weeks
Got back to the counter and low and behold staring me right in the face was as Ruger 10/22 TD in stainless

I can't wait to get out to the property in the morning and

They had no ammo, however they did have one 32rd pmag, which is now mine as well.
I have 500 rds or so. I gotta be careful with that pmag.

Did you get the 10/22 TD for under $300? I've been looking for a 10/22 carbine for less than $230. I've been waiting for awhile. I pass on one last week for $279 at Carter's Country and a pink one at Academy 2 weeks ago at Academy. This week they have the 10/22 TD on special for $399.97. Doesn't sound like a special to me.

329.99 + 24.99 (pmag) + tax=385.35 otd.
They sell the standard for 239.99 and the carbine for 249.99........when they have them in stock.
I think the TD feature plus stainless plus the awesome range bag is well worth the 80 dollar premium.

I got one of those back when they came out for $319. At least they are not jacking up the prices. Got lucky and bought a bunch of mags for it then too. They are pretty fun for a .22

I saw a Ruger model 77/22 at Bass pro while back. It was goin for around $725 or so. I went home and looked up the price of the 77/22 I bought about 30 years ago from Kay's Jeweler in Normal Illinois. I paid $249. I think the bolt action 22 is the finest model Ruger makes.
