I have a trip to Illinois in May and wondering if I can even bring my gun with me. I can be okay without carrying it, but I'd like to at least bring it still.

Could someone help me find the page for Illinois conceal carry laws?

IL currently has no provision for any kind of concealed carry. Frankly, I wouldn't even bring a gun into that state. They're full blown anti gun and have a million stupid little gun laws.

Yeah, IL is in an interesting place right now. The courts have ordered them to come up with legal ways to CC, but they haven't. Until it all gets sorted out, I wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole.

The courts have given law makers until June to pass a concealed carry law lifting a long time ban, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not only no ... but HECK NO!

Don't even take your firearm with you ... That state is run by the Third Reich.

Are you going to Chicago or somewhere in the rest of the state? They really are two different places! If you are "downstate"...little to no issue. If you are going to the Windy City...don't even mention the word gun, as I think they have a law against that!!!

I have family around the Springfield area and whenever we drive I take at least one gun with me to shoot on their farm. Now, I don't recommend it, but I'm not to thrilled about the idea of driving through St. Louis unarmed, so I disarm ASAP after getting through St.L, which happens to also be after crossing the MO/IL border. Since my wife is with me, I usually drop the mag and eject the round in the chamber and then let her put it away in its case and secure everything while we're driving either on the bridge over the river or shortly afterward if there is too much traffic on the bridge. It's not the best option and like I said, I wouldn't recommend it, but that's what I do. I also obey all the traffic laws and have never been stopped by LE in IL for it to become an issue.

While running through a list of summer vacation ideas my wife brought up Chicago and was disappointed when I said "Nope, can't carry there, I refuse to travel through or spend money in that state"

She then settled on St. Louis, guess its time to read up on their law

I've got a similar issue w/ my wife. One of her brothers got laid off from his job as a Controller (financial stuff) at Sage Hospitality, the company that manages Marriott Resorts, Vale, and most of the ski lodges in CO. He wound up accepting a job w/ another hospitality company in Napa Valley. My wife wants us to go visit them sometime this year when they get moved & set up. Needless to say, I'm less than thrilled due to the carry issue.

I thought this would be some kind of joke thread when I read the title.

I go to Chicago quite frequently for work...every 10th trip or so is downtown while the rest of them are out in the NW burbs (Scumburg/Hoffman Estates, etc.). I have enough friends there that I have seriously considered leaving a firearm there for my use when in town but so far I have not done this...yeah, illegal, I know it...like a cop told my Dad and I long ago "it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6." I'm not condoning any illegal behavior but when the bad guys don't follow the law, well, sometimes you have to make decisions...there is what is legal and then there is what is moral/right. I know folks that do carry in Illinois, so far it has worked out for them (ie - they are alive and well). Yeah, I know, I expect to get "flamed" for posting this but I'm sick and tired of the odds being tipped in favor of the thugs.

No flames here. I can understand that sentiment, and it seems that if they manage to pass more insane gun laws in the next few years, a lot of us will have to revisit doing what is right vs doing what is legal.

OP, it is your life and your decision. Personally, if I was forced to go to Chicago for work, my choice would be a good solid knife (it's better than nothing and you can always plead ignorance about the fact that your 'pocket knife' if it is illegal too and might actually get away with it, which you'd never manage to do with a pistol) that I would keep well hidden and not tell anyone I had on me.

I'd also not spend much time wandering the city without knowing where the good/bad parts of town are, and follow the midnight rule.

A knife/blade is one of my methods.

Guess I've watching "Judgement Night" one time too many (one time was probably "too many" LOL).
