Buying a gun in Cook County officially became more expensive this week. A new $25 tax on every gun purchased in the county took effect Monday as part of County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's plan to pay for the violence she says crowds jails and drives up health care costs.

The proposed gun tax is expected to bring in an estimated $600,000 in revenue.

I'd be shocked if it brought in one sixth that much. All you have to do is drive to the next county and you get an automatic $25 discount on every purchase.

Meanwhile the bad guys will keep on killing and ignoring the law.

There are dealers in Cook county, just not in the city of Chicago.
