I decided back in February that in addition to my XDs, I was going to buy either a Springfield Armory XD 9mm SC or an M&P 9mm Shield. The XD came available first from a private FFL I know, but I would probably still jump on a Shield if this price was right.

The last time I almost walked into Collectors was in 1999. I got to the door, saw a "No Loaded Guns In Store" sign next to the door and saw through the window that every employee was open carrying. I have not come close to darkening their door since. It wasn't an official 30.06 type sign, but their elitist attitude just flat out made me mad.

I went into the Cigar Shop next door, which I believe is the largest Cigar Shop in Houston, and spent my money there :).

Actually, you might ask them to clarify on that one. The indoor range I go to has a sign saying all guns must be unloaded, but they're CHL-friendly. I think the idea is that if it's your carry weapon and you're carrying it can be loaded, but anything else should be unloaded. I can live with that.

I noticed the sign on the front door myself. I was also carrying my S&W340PD concealed like usual. The sign clearly states "no loaded guns" but the very next sentence says "CHL holders are exempt." I thought it was a nice gesture and was not offended one bit. I prefer not to have every Tom off the street (non-CHL) walking in to trade a loaded gun. Just my .02cents.

Glad you got what you came in for and didn't get your entire wallet lifted in the process. I thinks its been established their prices are on the upper end of the spectrum. They do have a lot to look at though...

I agree. They are on the high end. But sometimes I just get tired of going to Academy, BassPro, Walmart, etc. and seeing empty shelves and empty gun cases. Collectors, while overpriced, is like being in a utopia for gun enthusiasts.

Pretty typical signage for most of the gun stores / ranges I go to. I believe the one at Collectors Firearms says something like "...all weapons must be unloaded except for CHL which must remain concealed..." (I only used quotes to offset the sign verbiage, it may actually use different wording but the intent is correct). I've seen similar signage at Tactical Firearms and other gun shops / ranges I've been to.

Not a bad idea IMO, my hope would be it actually makes people think and check about the weapons they are bringing into the store.

I guess they have changed the sign in the past 14 years :). In 1999 it had no mention of CHL holders being exempt.

I still won't darken their door.

Sign says CHL holders exempt. I think they do not want people bringing loaded guns in to sell.

Prices are higher than the gun shows. But it is a nice place with lots and lots of guns. Different models from what you see at the chain sporting goods stores. Lots of used guns and many old collector type guns. Fun to just browse.

I'm not sure where else I could see a 1960 Walther PPK, WW2 1911 A1 and cowboy guns all for sale along with all the new guns in Houston.

ive bought quite a few things from them now. before the whole shooting thing you could negotiate a little... now dont even bother.
