MYTH: DHS purchased 750 million rounds of several different types of ammunition in August 2012.
FACT: The DHS contract never stated 750 million rounds at any time. It is a five year contract with a maximum purchase of 70 million rounds over the life of the contract. Military Times recently addressed this issue as well.
That's just one myth busted. There are plenty more.

It's a common practice called strategic sourcing contracts - you have a bloc of supplies contracted and basically reserved for up to a certain amount over a protracted period of time. It accomplishes two important things - puts them at the head of the supply line and it gets a lower price per unit or in this case, per cartridge. These bids & contracts didn't happen in secret - they can be found, viewed, downloaded and printed out. But at this point in time, no one is willing to listen and it's understandable how that can happen. The conditions we are currently under, where government credibility is rapidly vanishing like never before and the news media is either missing in action or is in the tank with the political hacks, it creates an information vacuum that gets filled with theories and little else. When hysterics manage to die down a bit some blog pimp makes a post and it starts up all over again. Have been wondering if some of those who are keeping this going are agent provocateurs following an attack vector to keep us worked up and distracted off from activities that actually need critical attention.

if you want to know where all your ammo is going, look at the morning lines at each Academy. People are stockpiling thousands, if not tens of thousands, of rounds of ammo. _Everybody_ is panic-buying stuff the moment it shows up (including police departments). which is resulting in a dramatic scarcity. I don't expect this will slow down until late summer/early fall.
