Hey folks I used to be a CHL Instructor but I see some stuff has changed. I called DPS and got information that seems to contradict with what I read on the site. My license expired 4 years ago at least so I know I have to redo it all. I currently do hold a valid CHL. Can you folks tell me what steps I need to take? Thanks!

You will need to be a certified pistol instructor first. NRA, TCLEOSE instrcutor credentials are acceptable. Then, once you have that certification you can apply to DPS with the $100 fee and they will schedule you for the next open slot they have in a course.

Ok great thank you for the heads up on that. Thats what I thought but the person at DPS made no mention of that which had me wondering. Keith can you recommend any place in DFW I can get the NRA certification? Thanks much!

You can go here
http://nrainstructors.org/SearchCourse.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and search for a Pistol Instructors course in your area. If you don't already have another type of NRA Instructor certification you will be required to take the BIT (Basic Instructor Training) as well. Most Training Counselors will teach that portion along with the course or have them run consecutively so you can get both the BIT and the Pistol Instructors training.
