Airport Lounge: Strange Place for a 51% Sign

So I was flying out of Bush Intercontinental yesterday, and I was sitting in the united club lounge. I noticed that behind the bar, there's a 51% sign.
I think it's ironic to have it here for two reasons:
- To get into the lounge, you have to clear airport security. If the purpose of the sign is to tell CHL holders not to carry here, I think they're wasting their time. None of us are carrying behind airport security anyway.
- How can it be that they make over 50% of their revenue off of alcohol sales, when they give the drinks away for free?
Oh well - I patted my side, and double checked that I'd left it in the car anyway, just out of habit.

Maybe they should just put up a "Gun Free Zone" sign.

Businesses that sell alcohol are required to post either the 51% sign or the blue 'Unlicensed possession' sign by law no matter where they are located.
All of the United Club entries in the TABC database show as 51% locations (GUN SIGN: RED)

They're 51% because they give away free beer/wine/liquor and sell upscale beer/wine/liquor...
They don't sell food of any kind, so therefore, it's 51%.
I have noticed this too, and find it ironic that I'm behind security in an airport, but note, not all airports have their United Clubs behind security.

Wouldn't it be really cool to be able to sit in an airport lounge, drink a beer, be packing your EDC, and get on the plane equipped as such?

All the AA Clubs (American Airlines...not Al Anon) are posted at DFW as well. I also found it to be strange, but it is yet another case of where the letter of the law overrides common sense!

Sorry guys, that's probably some of my fault. I know that I spend more than 75% in the lounges on alcohol alone. Got to lessen the pain of the traveling.

Yep. Just search University Club in the name field at
http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/PublicInquiry/Status.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Valid 51% locaitons. Must be the Aggies drink a whole lot more than other universities where they have blue signs listed.
