Tight budgets are forcing the Homeland Security Department to buy less ammunition, two top officials are slated to tell Congress on Thursday as the House oversight committee continues investigating the Obama administration’s ammunition purchases.

The problem is citizens stock piling of ammo with the amount of new gun owners we have seen in the last six months.
ETA: One can only hope the shortage ends soon.

Sooo, they're only going to order 1.499 Billion rounds, instead of 1.5 Billion?
And probably then we'll have to have an ammunition sequester. Just say'n...

I've been reading that the ammo manufacturers are only selling about 5% of their output to the Feds so I wouldn't expect a reduction in government orders to have much effect. Also, the most severe shortage seems to be for 22 LR, and I don't think the Feds are buying that up.
