My wife called me today about the sametime I noticed this new email on my iphone:

From: "admin" <admin@X.com>
Date: May 8, 2013, 10:34:15 AM CDT
To:
Subject: Lockdown

Attention parents: We are currently on a lockdown. The police are chasing a suspect in the area. The children are safe and we are monitoring the situation. Please feel free to call the school if you have any questions. At this time, we cannot open the doors to the school at all. Thank you for understanding.

X School of Y Management

She said she had already talked to the school administration and all the kids were fine, the school was placed on lockdown, no one in or out.

I was glad all the kids were safe but it reminded me somewhat of what happened in boston:

viewtopic.php?f=83&t=65395&start=30&hilit=Lockdown" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course things were not taken to that level, that I am aware of.

In this case, in regards to the school lockdown and police stationed at each school during the search,I think it was the appropriate response.

This of course brings up the issue of schools as "Gun Free Zones" and the newly passed school marshal legislation.

I wonder if parents can volunteer as "unpaid" employees and serve as school marshalls if they have CHL and took the training?

My understanding is that sounds very dangerous if there's a fire.

I bet one of the students could show them how to open the doors if Admin can't figure it out.

Apparently the school knows what's best for your kids.
