NY Ex-Cops to be Exempted from New Gun Laws

“Law enforcement personnel are trained in the use of firearms,” said Leah Gunn Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. “I don’t think it is going to weaken the intent of the law at all.”
So, how about ex-military, or an ex-gun instructor, or better yet an ex-free citizen of the state of NY?
Nothing against cops or ex-cops, but once they retire they become private citizens. Why should they have more rights/liberties than anyone else.

This is purely political; a way for the NY gun grabbers to get more cops and retired cops on their side.
As for ex cops being given more leeway, are you also against LEOSA?

I have no issue with LEOSA as it applies to current law enforcement agents. Once you retire, you should enjoy the same rights and privileges as the rest of us, IMHO. I also have opposed measures by our legislature to grant themselves CHL privileges that did not apply to the rest of us.

While I think the NY gun laws are lame, I want to clarify this topic. EX cops do not get any extra carry authority. Only retired cops that meet the requirements do. If one reads HR218 one has to have retired after serving 15 years, ect. That includes a yearly qualification, ect. Just because one retires, it does not mean you do not have enemies out there. I have a long list and they do not forget. That was part of the intent of hr218 when it passed. That and having 500k extra trained people out there to intervene when something goes down. Here in TX they also allow retired LEO's to carry in more places then a chl. I personally would like to see a nationwide right to carry passed for CHL, but the issue is going to be training. Each state is different and even TX is moving away from a qualification for renewal.

Yes. LEOSA and PPACA violate both the letter and the spirit of the U.S. Constitution.

Stay away from NYC! Go to Missoula or Sedona, et al instead for vacation.
