This is a good article. Glad to see a working dog that is of working age being allowed to work vs being retired or worse put down. I know my retired (now 11) year old dog still wishes he was back at work. I sure hope the SEAL gets the dog back when he retires. It meant a lot to me and my family to get my dog back when he hit retirement.

By the time this dog retires from LE, he may be more attached to his handler in the Sheriff's department, although either would probably want him.

When my last GSD retired from working he still wanted to do it and thought he could for a couple years. We took him out a couple times just to let him have some fun and he finally realized he couldn't do it anymore and accepted his retirement well. He was still on duty at the house up until near the end. Stubborn boy!

My dog is now 11 or so. He had to retire at 10. He goes nuts in the car and God forbid he sees a unit on a stop. I haven't let him see a sleeve in a year, but he would love to do some work. He has the arthritis now. He would love a burglar.
