Will be interesting to see who Christie taps as his replacement.

Okay everyone, I know it's tempting (for me too!), but please don't.

Chas.

I had full intentions, until I read your comment. I'll keep my mouth closed now.

I lost all faith in Christie to do the right thing after his post-Sandy love fest with Obama. You can bet your bottom dollar that Lautenberg's replacement will NOT be a conservative Republican.

I'd be surprised if his replacement were even a Republican.

Apparently, Geraldo Rivera is making some noise about being appointed because he has some Senate ambitions: http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/03/geral ... z2VB963Q9o

If he could appoint himself he probably would.

My dad told me about a fellow who never had an ill thing to say about anyone. Never a word.

One day, a man in his small town who nobody, NOBODY liked and everyone disliked, suddenly passed away. His funeral still had a good showing of people, and who should show up but the man who never spoke ill of anyone. He walked to the casket to pay his respects, and was standing there silently when another man came up and said slyly "So, what did you think of this fellow?" to see if he could get a negative reaction.

The man stood there for a moment, turned to the the smirking fellow beside him and said "Well, he certainly had good teeth, didn't he?".

I may not follow Thumper's advice every day ("If ya can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin at all!") but that story has always been a good lesson to me. No matter how evil someone may be perceived to be, there is always something good about them. And if you can't think of anything, just shut up and go about your business ;-)

We may have dodged a bullet here, men.

I saw a story on Drudge earlier to the effect that that supreme cornball Geraldo Rivera was considering a run for that seat, a a Republican, that Lautenberg's death means Gov. Christi will appoint a successor, that Rivera's phone isn't ringing and he doubts he will get the nod. It now looks like the danger of having both Rivera and Franken in the Senate is somewhat alleviated.

On a related note, another anti-2A legislator will be out of Congress for a while.
NY Rep. Carolyn McCarthy is undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

You might recall Ms. McCarthy as the legislator that coined the phrase "the shoulder thing that goes up", when asked to define a "barrel shroud".
While I sincerely do wish her a speedy recovery, I hope she finds a better reason to retire soon.

And rather than take the reins and put forward a replacement, Christie chickens out and calls for a special election.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/06 ... autenberg/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Did he choose this path because:
1. That's what Obama wanted or
2. Because appointing a replacement directly (R or D) would risk a political backlash that might hurt his reelection chances. or
3. All of the above.

Christie: All bark, no bite.
