Anyone know if the event is a gun free zone? Past event experience?

The event information site says no dogs, outside food, weapons etc. but that is normal for this kind of event.

They certainly have a lot of rules and regulations for something pretending to be a celebration of freedom. Be that as it may, I'm pretty sure it's a city park.

Agreed. I live in Houston, but I've been out of the country for the last few weeks, so I had to search to look this up.

I see the no weapons policy, but it seems the 11 words they have dedicated to it "The following items are NOT allowed on to festival grounds: weapons." is about 27 words short of what's required for a 30.06 posting (not to mention that (a) they're the wrong words, and (b) even if they were the right words, they're invalid, because this is a city park).

The event is on city owned property.

I agree about the city owned part but that is always subject to the event organizer....not legally but look how long it took to get the GRB Convention center unposted for gun shows!
I got the signs taken down at the COH Permits office but that was through 311 and not the result of being handcuffed and taken away.

What I really don't want to happen is I Park/walk a long way and get to the gate and there is the goober with the magic wand worried about Boston Marathon copy cats and then having to explain or deal with LEO or get turned away.

There are two possible conflicts at this event.

So the beer garden could be a 51% area??????.....then there is the pro vollyball.... I don't care much about either and wouldn't drink anyway. DJ Ebonix is enough to keep me away

No, it isn't. It is up to the Texas Legislature and they already said "no."

I think he means in practice... Referencing another thread where the LEOs barred CHL's from entry under threat of arrest until some pressure was put on them...

Parts of Elington field are still government owned and therefore it would not be advisable to bring a side arm seeing as there is no distinctive line on what is govt. property and what is not. It would be like bringing a gun into NASA.
Don't think i would chance it.

It's "Freedom over Texas," and it is at Elanor Tinsley Park near downtown Houston.

Ellington Field is owned by the City of Houston. While there may be some federal government leased buildings, the terminal and main buildings are city owned. You would just have to make sure not to enter any buildings leased by a federal agency (Air Guard, Air Force, etc.)

Freedom Over Houston will be held along the Buffalo Bayou park / allen parkway area

They usually gate the area off to collect tickets. The last time I was there for fireworks was 2000...... Dogs, bikes and messenger bags were in style then...

I know my right to carry there concealed exists....

BUT compliance with that is spotty as we have all experienced. The possibility of the "professional sporting event" (Which requires no notice) or the encounter of a 51% sign in the beer garden give me some concern although I can avoid those.

It is the security gard/ ticket taker with the Magic Wand and Post Marathon jitters they might have that concerns me. That is why I was looking for some more current experience.
