Forn the FAQ at the DPS site:
11. Can others find out if I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun ?

Generally, no. Information on individuals who are licensed to carry a concealed handgun is confidential and not subject to requests under the Public Information Act. However, the Department may release information about a concealed handgun licensee to criminal justice agencies for law enforcement purposes
That being said, think about who has your birthdate, your DL, and your social security number ... "background check" companies retained by potential employers ?

Is that a question or a statement?

I'm missing the point. The law says that an agency can check your background for law enforcement purposes, e.g., you are arrested for assault. They can check up on you. This has nothing to do with your employer checking on criminal records.....how am I wrong?

I'm missing it too.
As I read it, no public company or private company should be able to check to see if you've got a CHL for any purpose.

What's the question?

Is the OP thinking that maybe they will log in to the DPS website and check your status and learn from status page that you have a CHL?

This is possible if they have your DL, SSN & DOB as it only lists apply for instructor (unless you did this too) or no options at all until you get close to renewal. I sent DPS an email about it months ago with a suggestion and never heard anything back. It would be nice if they allowed you to set up a username and password after you gave them your info. Then, no employer or background check company could check.
