I just completed my online application. Fingerprints scheduled for Tuesday. My question is what all do I need to mail to DPS to get the ball rolling. I know I need the cert. Of completion from the course but what else?

Everything listed on the checklist that you were presented at the end of the application, except the CHL-6 if you have a TX driver's license.

I have given up on the online process. It says it cannot verify my information, probably because of a newly issued DL.
For a mail-in application, the application no longer lists what all has to be included.
I'm over 60 but they know that from my birth date, so nothing needed there. I have the Form 6 signature and the CHL-100 Class completion. What else should go with the application besides a check for $70?
From reading online, I can't do fingerprints until they give the go-ahead, I guess.
What about a CHL-85?
Anything else?

If you mail a paper application, make sure to include the affidavits.

Which would those be?
There are a couple of notarized documents, a release of information and Affidavit about reading all the laws. Are those what you mean?

And make copies of everything before sending.

**Bar Coded Page that was presented when you applied online. This isn't a deal breaker if you forgot to print it/lose it, but it makes the process much more efficient, and eliminates chances for error.
**The form you take when you do your fingerprints
**CHL-100 when you complete the class
**Documentation if you are receiving a discount or special circumstances (DD-214 for Veteran; copy of military ID for Active Duty; paperwork supporting indigency; naturalization papers; etc.)
**Documentation for any arrests/convictions reported on your application (remember, you report all arrests, because DPS will find them)
**CHL-6 ONLY if you are apply for a non-resident CHL (you do not live in Texas, and have no Texas driver license)
You mail all this stuff at the same time. DO NOT mail it independently, because it will get lost, not put together, and it will make the process longer. Also, you do not need passport photos unless you are a non-resident. As an alternative to mailing, you can scan all these documents to a .pdf file and upload them to DPS on the DPS CHL website. I did mine this way.

Yes, that's what he means. When you apply online, you digitally sign these affidavits. When you mail in the application, you have to have these notarized and send them with the application. And you can't set a fingerprint appointment until DPS receives the paper application & affidavits.
As an alternative, you can scan all the documents to a .pdf file and upload them to the DPS website. It takes a little time off the process, but not much. You just don't have to worry about the mail. I did mine this way.
