Mostly a lurker here, but, I just got all of my dad's firearms. Of particular interest to me is a 1976 Ruger 10/22. It has never been fired, has the original box, manual and receipt ($52 at Woolworths). Does something like this have any value? If so, if I take it to the range will that hurt the value? Thanks.

Hard to say. They only made about a million of them. But unfired in the original box with the original sales receipt.....that might be worth something. But I doubt that it has a TON of collector value. It might have a lot of sentimental value though.

I really have no intention of selling it, I thought it was kind of interesting having all the original packaging and such and was curious about it.

Is it the Bicentenial model, if so it will some value to a collector. Maybe $200 or so.

If I was thinking about selling it, I would not shoot it.

If I didn't already have a .22 rifle, I'd keep it and start using it. Hand it down to my kids.
Sentimental value is well in excess of $200, for me... YMMV, of course.

I have mine from about 1980 or so and may have the original box around here somewhere. In the move, everything is somewhere else now! At least I know where the rifle itself is.

An unfired NIB 10/22 is an anomaly, a crime against all that is good and true and proper. They were made to be fired. If you can find some .22 ammo, get out there and shoot something! Moreover, start drooling over the various mods and enhancements and upgrades and customizations. Clear off your credit cards and get to ordering!

I have a much newer 10/22 that I really like shooting. Dad had a modest collection of which he never fired any, for whatever reason. Not for a lack of ammo, that's for sure. That's okay though, I got to add some new handguns and shotguns to my collection and I will be putting them to use.
