TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
A group of East Texans is organizing an attention-grabbing march for this 4th of July.
They plan to march through downtown Tyler visibly armed, but they want to stress that their purpose is peaceful. Adam Kirby and Matthew Thiessen say there's no better time than the 4th of July to celebrate the rights of the American people. This year, they've found a unique way.
Anyone here going?

Nope..
See no good outcome from this regardless of confrontation or not... and I read the law
42.01. DISORDERLY CONDUCT; (8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;
as very open to individual interpretation.
The organizers seem to think because THEY FEEL the carrying of weapons pointed at the ground is non threatening or not calculated to cause alarm..
But it takes only ONE person to FEEL otherwise, call 911, then the police must act, confrontation will ensue. Perhaps resolved politely with LEO's responded agreeing that the acts committed were not calculated to cause alarm, or perhaps voices are raised, tempers flare, and folks not the police or 911 caller will go to jail for the day.
If it goes well, great happy for them... don't believe it will change or influence anti gun folks position or decisions, nor cause a politician to write or support a pro 2A bill, the Governor to sign such a bill ..

so it is a waste of time other then for entertainment purposes...assuming you find bating anti gunners and the police to be entertaining.

There have been open carry marches all over Texas and I have yet to hear about one that went bad. Just search youtube. If you have an unloaded rifle, no mag inserted, slung across your back and pointed to the ground I doubt you will have any problems.
Plus cops are not going to want to get involved with 50+ or 100+ people. If you were to do this by yourself then I could see you getting harassed by police but not in a big group.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is "Will there be barbeque?" I don't do anything that doesn't involve a good meal.

A god given right not exercised is a right soon lost. Who gives a hoot what morons think who know nothing of our Constitution. If everyone carried openly this country would be a whole lot friendlier.

The article says they've invited law enforcement including the local sheriff's office. I imagine one purpose of extending the invitation is a courtesy notice of what will be happening and when and where to help ensure there are no misunderstandings. They also seem to be notifying media and local residents, both of which should help. I'm still not sure I'd go out and join them, but I think they've made a good effort at making sure it goes over well.

The open carry march in Washington DC is the one I'm worried about. As on as the step foot in DC they have committed a crime. I wonder if they will march next week.

LEO's are not afraid to deal with #'s if people are breaking the law not saying these folks are just letting you know that police most of the time are out numbered in situations but still enforce the law if needed. Not for sure where you live but 99% of LEO's don't look for people to harass & yes we have bad police just like we have bad CHL holders most LEO's are just trying to make our city, state, & country a better place for us to live.
