"The suspect approached his vehicle (then) pulled his weapon on the trooper," Sampa said.
The trooper, who has not been identified, drew his own pistol and fired once, Sampa said.
"He trooper did not have time to get out of his vehicle. He made the shot from the vehicle," Sampa said.
The man was so close to the trooper that his pistol was later found inside the trooper's patrol car.

Just saw a bit on the news about this. It was easy to see that even the sergeant responding to the reporter's questions was, himself, in something of a state of disbelief. Can't wait for the toxicology report on this one.

I hate to think about the poor trooper's ears. Having to fire while inside your car with no ear protection sounds like temporary deafness to me.

That is a little scary - I only live a couple of miles from there and go past that intersection at least twice a day. Another good reason to keep doors locked - and your concealed carry close.

Like they say: the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun,is a good guy with a gun. Those state troopers are pretty well highly trained.
The trooper must have beed really prepared to act that fact.

Another day in the life of a LEO. Glad to hear the trooper was a good shot and prepared for the fight. Scary to think of what this wacko would have done had he been able to enter a car.

The TDPS Troopers are pretty tough. Anyone that dumb enough to pull a gun of them must really be on Bath Salts!!!

Obvious case of "Profiling" by the Trooper..... Poor youngster was just trying to catch a ride in the heat...
The trooper saw the man about 3:15 p.m. along the 15000 block of FM 529.
"He was in the middle of traffic, attempting to open up car doors as they were traveling," said Sgt. John Sampa, a spokesman with the state agency.
Witnesses said the man, who appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, would switch from the east to westbound lanes of the freeway.
Apparently the
Profile of a car jacker was the right one.... God bless the men and women of law enforcement putting it all on the line for our safety!

So you, too, are unable to discern/comprehend the difference between a hose nozzle and an honest-to-goodness firearm? Glad the trooper was apparently able to do so.
