New George Bush Library off limits, right?

We were planning on taking my parents to the new library early next month and my wife was just reading on their website that its federal property and no weapons of any kind (even folding knives REGaRDLESS of length) are allowed.
We were planning on taking the DART rail from Rowlett to mockingbird station so there would be nowhere to lockup my gun. I guess I would just be going disarmed? either that or convince the family to drive instead (which I'm goi to try and do).

Federal property. Off limits.

You are correct, it's off-limits for a weapon. In addition, you'll have to go through a magnometer when you first enter the building.

I think there is an exception for a Reading Rainbow library.

Had a friend go there this weekend and was approached before he even entered the building. He was wearing 5.11 pants and a 5.11 hat. Security officer stated she noticed he was in "full tac gear" and asked what agency he worked for. He was then asked if he had any weapons and he admitted to a pocket knife. She advised him that he could not bring it in and must return it to his vehicle. The security officer explained to him to that if your not a Federal Officer you could not be in possession of any type weapon and enter the facility.

Seems like a good reason to leave the tacticool clothing for training classes.

5.11 pants and a baseball cap are "full tac gear"?
I wear 5.11 pants and a boonie hat when I mow the lawn. I even wear my desert boots.
I'm sure the drones love watching me.

I know most of the security guards there. I suspect they were being friendly, to approach and let the guy about the weapons policy. Such an approach is better than a seemingly accusatory approach, or having to pull the guy aside for a patdown (and confiscation) after he goes through the magnometer.

Not me, I'm too used to it. If an ignorant security guard has an issue with it that's his problem.
I can't remember being given a second glance when I'm wearing anything from 5.11.

I have never considered wearing 5.11 pants because they make you look cool. I bought a pair last year for work to wear at the range. Now I have 5 pair and haven't put on a pair of blue jeans in 6 months. To me they are old man pants (I am pushing 40) and are the new coverall. In fact they are the opposite of cool and are my "I don't care what I look like as long as I am comfortable pants." Lots of pockets and elastic in the waistband. If I have any delusion that they make me look cool, I will put them on and model them for my teenage neices and nephews and I ask them...I already know what their response would be =

Except the "ignorant security guard" called it right - the person had a weapon.
As a matter of fact, if we're going to get
technical about what the word means, it was the person with the knife that was "ignorant" (unless he knew about the laws, and was planning on violating them - that would, of course, be a whole 'nother discussion).

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll just plan on driving and then leaving my knife and gun in the car. I am really surprised by how strict the security is there. At least I know I'll be safe inside.

Wearing 5.11s isn't "full tac gear", as the guard apparently claimed. A person's actions and attitude will tell you more about them than what they're wearing.
