More evidence that alcohol and guns don't mix.

Meh....
I think it probably better evidence that idiots and firearms don't mix. If you can't trust a drinking man with gun, you can't trust him with a gun period.

i basically agree. Alcohol is an enhancer. It multiplies the stupid factor that already exists. However, alcohol will remove inhibitions in people and I know people that get crazy when drinking that are normally very sane. My brother-in-law is a retired police chief. He is probably one of the most level-headed and calm people I have ever met. He doesn't drink, but there is a reason. Over 40 years I have known him I have never seen him lose his temper or even raise his voice unless it was to get someone's attention during an arrest. But apparently when he drinks he is a mean drunk. In college he would get belligerent and want to fight. It changes the mental state on many people and they just can't control themselves.

Pretty much agreed. Only, I can't trust anyone with a gun. So it's a great reason to carry one

Notice the complete absence of any mention of the second cop.
Was he the proby's training partner? Will he be disciplined for his participation and/or failure to take any decisive action?
So far no comments here about what a CHL might have done as a customer in the store.... ??

Ok. Since you asked, I'll bite.
Be a good witness. Get out of there if you can and observe. IMHO, drawing another gun when the first one isn't pointed at me and hasn't been fired escalates the situation. Plus, the off duty cops were wearing body armor, and there were two of them....drunk. That makes it even tougher to intervene and do anything that doesn't make things go south real quick. Call 911 and let the guys that are paid handle their own....

You should pull out your CHL badge, ID yourself as a neighborhood watch member and order them to surrender their weapons

So a CHL sash or CHL tiara wouldn't work in this case? They might fall down on the floor laughing and pass out from lack of oxygen....

Walk up behind the officer with the gun drawn and whisper in his ear:
