I think I caught a break today

I have been trying to apply online for a couple of weeks, since my new Texas DL was received. For all that time, I kept getting refused because the information could not be authenticated. Finally, after filling it out this morning, I called to see what the deal was.

I must still have a drab of luck left over from switching wives. I got on the phone with a very helpful young lady, whose name I need not mention, but she went right after the problem. Nothing beats knowing what you are doing, and she apparently did.

First because I did not present my SS card with the drivers license app, it was "unverified" in their system. I was asked and did show a 1099 showing the correct number which they had. My SS card was issued so long ago that it was hand written on a parchment scroll. I explained that and what the clerk at DL issuance had required.

Then I mentioned I had filed a CHL application about 18 months ago, before I moved here, but never got here to take the course before I moved. She found that, that was the problem, it was still open, contrary to their system, and, get this, because of that error in their system, my $70 was still there and good. Man, oh man! I need the money for my old age, which will be here before we know it! Anyway, she has all the info, can update the new address etc, and said, can you send the CHL-100 by fax or e-mail. I could, and now have done so, so I am now officially, in The Waiting Room, after a couple of weeks banging on the door and not finding the handle.

Yippee, yippee!

I hope that young lady gets an extra bonus at Christmas or something. It is so refreshing to encounter a government employee who knows what they are doing and will go the extra steps to get around a problem, and get things on the road. They don't do that in California, in my experience.

Hey, that's great! Take the wife to dinner and celebrate or something if she's your good luck charm. ;-)

I hope her name starts with a C. No need to confirm or deny. And glad it all worked out for you. Nice when something just all of a sudden pops into place after all the aggregation.

Nice to hear there are some people with common sense working against The System behind the lines. :thumbs2:

Now what do you suppose I can do about fingerprinting?

Don't they set the time and place or have to give a go ahead or something?

Ouch!

My legs sting just thinking about it or were you the switcher...?

Wives?

Alright, I'm all confused...

Nahh, 24 years ago Sunday, I switched from Wife No. 1 to Wife No. 2. I have thought ever since that I had used up my life time supply of good luck, but maybe there is a drab or dribble of it left.

Very good news and even better that you were treated so well.

I called down to DPS to check on something regarding my CHL and was received and spoken to very professionally and well. I suspect the DPS leadership has something to do with that...

Heck no, they don't.

About six months after I moved here Cali DMV sent me a notice I hadn't paid my registration on my vehicles. Sent directly to my new, correct, Texas address.

Apparently they could figure out where I moved to but not that I'd moved. I had filled out the change of address form and checked the 'registering out of state' box. I've seen a lot of 'mistakes in the state's favor' like that. (And the idea that I would have to notify them I'd moved out of state in the first place struck me as ridiculous to begin with, if I registered here and let it lapse there, that ought to be enough - but no, because they do the stupid 'must register as non-op or you pay reg penalties' bull ... I'm starting to rant, I'll stop now)

They need the money, they want the money and they will get it any way they can.

I just learned that I failed to prepare and file a paper in connection with a long ago real estate transaction which carried a $20 fee. It is now close to $250 with penalties, interest, etc. Thieves!

If you give them money, they just waste it!
